B18c5 & H22A whats the difference?
okay guys heres the deal. i did my research and all and i notice that the h22 has more torque and more horsepower...so is this the engine i would want to go with or is the B18 better since it revs higher...? also why do guys put different heads on the blocks like a b16 head? whats the difference thanks guys... i am looking to make around 300 hp...for not a huge amount of money.. whats my best route to go?
H22 is a touch heavier, takes a little more work (and money) to swap into a civic. The H trannys are weaker than a B.If your looking to make 300hp than FI is the only cheap way to go.
You can make 300hp with a LS turbo.

H22 is better
LOL j/k There is tons of information on both of the engine here and every where on the internet. But the main difference is one is a 1.8 and the other is a 2.2. The H22 has more HP & Torque. But the GSR engine has a better tranny.

Lets start with money. You're talking about "not wanting to spend alot". Both of these swap will cost you quite a bit. On top of that, you're looking to get 300 HP. Now, best way to get that is definitly FI (Force Induction) AkA Turbo.
You're looking to spend AT LEAST 10Ks when all said and done with your 300HP.
LS/VTec is a pretty powerful motor, but its very unreliable hench (frankenstein swap). Its a cheap motor to put together, but you have to make sure the person that is building is credible. Motor usually **** around 5-7K miles if not built right. I even witness the motor ****'n when this guy was reversing it, because it wasn't built right.
Also another motor to look into swap'n is a B20 Vtec or going B20 by itself. Cheap but yet very fun.
Listen to these guys and do search. You'll learn quite alot here. Just be patient with the ******** around H-T.
good luck and have fun.

I could spend 2000 and make 400whp.
F-series with H22 trans + rods/pistons/headstuds + nitrous

Bense,
I am assume'n you will bve doing the swap yourself? Also, that sound like a hook up price. What I gave was the "NORMAL GUY" whom would take it to a shop and buy it retail price. B18C5 will cost you 4.5K alone on Hmotorsonline.com. Now, boosting kits and tune'n to get 300HP. I am also assuming he meant 300 WHP.
Can you argue with that ?

.......trying to boost a motor that wasnt built for forced induction is going to be a lot of maintenance.
listen to nameless warrior. hes looking out for you in the long run. you could run low boost and be fine on stock internals, but your not going to be able to reach 300hp and definitely not whp. so if you want that goal to be met, its in your best interest to save a little more, build your motor, and then boost it. rather than boost it now, blow the engine, tear the car apart, have no car to drive, and spend a lot more money fixing it.

being that those engines are pretty high compression, youll probably be able to push only like 6 to 8 psi. and with that itll be hard to hit the 300 whp mark safely.
that much i doubt tho, it has high compression yes however a thicker headgasket would bring the compression down a good ammount enough to probably run 10psi and could easily make 300hp and probably around 275whp.
lowering the comprerssion will be key to making more power in the motor and would be totally worthless to run 6psi
