if you could...calculate your MPG next time. if you don't know how to do that...
1. next time you fill up, reset your tripometer.
2. when it's time to fill up again, see how much gas you put in.
3. take miles logged by tripometer divided by gallons of gas put in
this will be a better indicator of whether or not you're getting the correct mileage or not.
250 miles sounds a little low if you're going all the way to Empty. I average about 320-330 miles before my light comes on or 25mpg in my 93 vtec.

I too am only getting 240 to the tank with mostly city driving that is also grandma like in my 97 base. That averaged out to 19 MPG last time I filled up.

you should probly just try to change the basic stuff that would help your mpg i.e. fuel filter, spark plugs, O2 sensor. You said you have a new air filter so thats good. Dirty/old oil can cause bad mpg as well.

yeah i get just over 300 usually.
seems like i get worse mileage in the winter.. weird.. i know.
i just changed my spark plugs and air filter. fuel filter is next.. i have a feeling my cat is getting clogged.
AND cylinder 4 is burning oil... that plug was oil fouled. so im assuming the rings are bad.

i get usually get around 290-320 miles (city/highway with vtec every once in awhile) before my light come on. I most I have ever done is around 360 miles and when I went to fill up I still had just under two gallons left.

just bought the car recently and im poor so im working at it.. wouldnt a clogged fuel filter slow down the use of gas not causing me to use so much fuel.

Don't drive during rush hour. Don't drive 100 mph. Don't drive on flat, low, really wide or sticky tires. Stay with an all weather 205/55/15 or a 185 if you want mileage. Don't whack the throttle open, use as much part throttle as possible. Advance your ignition timing a little bit via the distributor.
You could swap/replace the O2 sensor or see if the cat is clogged if you are really concerned about it. But most mileage issues are from driving style than from poorly maintained cars. There are days I get 130 miles to the tank and others I get up to 470 in my nonVTEC.

For city driving only, I usually get about 320 miles out of the tank before the low fuel light kicks in. On longer trips I's gotten closer to 400 miles before tripping the light.

Tire alignment is important as well.
dont forget about weight as well ( junk / tools / amps etc in the trunk)
I find it fun to drive frugally. The three main things to frugal driving are:
1: steady speeds, obviously not too fast.
2: moderate acceleration (not fun but it works
)
3: brake gently or not at all If you can. conserve momentum coming up to a light by braking lightly you save gas because you dont have to build up momentum from a stop.

You guys should just calculate your actual MPG the way the guy further up in the thread said. I do this every tank. You can't really go by "miles per tank" because sometimes the gas light comes on early or late.
In my car, the light comes on at 280 miles. If I were getting 280 miles per tank, my mileage would be shitty. If I calculate my mpg, I generally get 30 or 31, which is a lot more than 280 miles per tank.

lately my car's been busting out 400 miles per tank (30 mpg) every time. 93 octane fill up at the first low gas light (13-14 gallons)
