Magnetic Drain Plugs: Really worth it?
Alright, so my car has about 173k on it ( 1999 civic ex - d16y8 ). Don't think the tranny fluid has ever been changed lol.
But I'm looking into these so called magnetic drain plugs and I really wanna know if its worth it. At my mileage, could there possibly be downsides to using these? Do you think they would dislodge some gunk that may be holding some things together? I'm looking at getting both Tranny and Oil drain plugs from MFactory.
Need some serious input only please

there are no downside to using them, but if u use them on ur tranny, make sur to get a short one because it will otherwise hit the gears and you won't be able to thread it all the way in.
It would be especially useful after a fresh rebuild. I dont think you would need one, but they are cheap.

A short one? There are different length ones...?
I was going to order the Oil+Tranny set from mfactory's website. How big are those?

I never used them personally but some people have posted pics of 3-5 thousand miles later on the oil drain bolt and 10 or so thousand miles later on tranny drain plug and they clearly do work. I cant think any any negatives as long as they are manufactured well enough.
i use one in my motor oil and it gets small stuff out all the time.
ive yet to try it out on the tranny, but ill be doing that when the rebuild comes
id just go for it and give it a shot

you do know you can get a magnetic plug from autozone for like 2 bucks.
idiot kids have bought into websites posting "jdm hot magnetic plugs"
it's old news, go to autozone, get the $2 plug that other sites will sell you for 20.

Thanks a lot for the input guys
.
And to be honest, I'd rather go with MFactory magnetic plugs then AutoZone crap. Even if they're the exact same thing. I'd rather stick with a reliable company. I know AutoZone for having cheap **** and have had experiences in the past. I only turn to them for stuff that I know won't fail on me.

There are big big differences, trust me
Just because the label says "magnetic drain plug", it doesn't means the magnet is the same, or the quality of the plug is the same
For the Tranny, you want a short plug, otherwise it will interfere with your gears.

at that high of a milage I cant imagine to many parts creating metal debri in the tranny or engine.
but there is no downside.
I would suggest running one on a freshly rebuilt engine over a high milage engine.
go for it it only helps things though

I had a cheapo one and now I have a Golden Eagle plug. The GE is a lot stronger (magnetically) because sometimes its hard for me to even get the plug into the hole of the oil pan because the magnet keeps pulling onto the oil pan itself. lol it takes me like 5 mins just to thread the plug. My older one was a lot weaker and didn't pull as much scraps out.
I never heard of anyone using it for the tranny plug though. I don't really think its as necessary on the trans.
