Running a turbo off an AFC (I searched)
I have recently bought a 1992 prelude from a friend of mine to help him pay off his 300zx TT. The engine was replaced 30k ago with an H23 from hmotors, and its running 6psi off a turbo from an eclipse. The car has not been tuned for the turbo and is running off an AFC controller which I have been told many times is asking for death. So my question is, other then the car running very lean at high rpms (which I don’t take the car to very often), How else does the turbo running off the Afc damage the engine? I have a megan header for it that I got off ebay so I can either wait till I have money for a hondata and get it tuned (which wouldn’t happen very soon because I’m a full time college student with plenty of bills), or I can take the turbo off and put the header on and be safe. Do you guys think the car will last another 6 months running the way its does so I can save the money for the hondata? Or do you think the engine will probably take a **** by then? thanks for any help you can offer
just say no. The reason afc's are bad is because they cannot independently adjust your ignition timing. As you change your fuel, you also changing your ignition timing without "really" changing it.
just say no to the afc. I'd do the smart thing and put the header on, but that is completely my own opinion because i believe in tuning bar none.
