painting car during winter
I'm about to paint a couple cars with a compressor and spray gun with automotive paint, my question is, myth or fact... you can't paint when it's cold, I need some solid answers to that and what temperatures will work and such..
I always just followed the instructions recommended by the paint manufacturer. It seems most of them dont recommend any temps below 50. You should just look around and call some paint manufacturers up and see what they say.
My major at college is auto body, and you should not paint until it is about 70 degrees. Do not attempt to paint during the winter unless you have a paint booth or garage that is around 70. If you paint when it is cold your paint job with come out like ****. Also you do not want to paint in a humid environment.
Hey guys,
Thanks very much for offering advice. I wont do any major painting until it warms up.
But what about 'scratch and dent,' sand, prime, and paint -- small touch up work? Could I get away with doing minor stuff in the cold?

Not really. Im assuming that you plan on filling the dents with bond. Which need to decent temp to fully harden. Also Im not sure if it will stick to a cold surface. With the primer, its the same as paint, wait until its warm.
