i dont think their is a exact answer as everyone is different and builds a block for different reasons.

be it 1.6-2.0L motors. both can make equal power, larger bore is going to make more torque.

but you have to have a equally great turbo kit to make the supporting power the block can take

so in reality it just depends on the person and what they are looking to do.

in reality a block can be built for 800whp however its not realistic

1.6L can be built for 800whp so bore doesnt really matter its all in the turbo kit

Terry (BoostFed) hit around the 700whp marker I think.

I made 676whp 402 ft-lb torque a couple of years ago, it was the most at that time as far as I knew. RLZ Engineering made 714whp though on their old B16A on a Dynapak that reads low

what type of turbo kit are you going to be using to make that kinda power.... its going to need to be pretty top notch

along with EMS and fuel and a great tune

what kinda turbo kit are you looking to go with or what do you have already?

Yes a GT4088R would work great! A friend of mine has one on his 84mm B16A made 630whp went 9.68@157mph

I have a set of Pauter Rods for a B16 for a great price. If nobody buys them soon I am going to use them. Trying to go SFWD and I like the idea of a high rev B16 on serious boost.

Excuse my ignorance but can someone fill me in on the advantage of the 84mm bore on the B16? I am assuming it just helps get the 16 torque numbers up, and then we can take advantage of the bottom end torque and the hight revving top. I don't know if there are downsides that come with this as well, but this thread has be very curious.

If there is a thread somewhere, feel free to point me in that direction as to not throw this one OT too much.

When it comes to a boosted motor, there's very few replacements for displacement Stroking a motor will usually yeild more low-mid range, increasing bore can help all over - although both have reasonable limits. IMO its not much more to get a b18a/b/c1 block over a b16, esp if you're tossing 1k in sleeves in there, with rods/pistons that cost the same for all. 2.0L b18 > 1.8L b16

Power advantage is not in the B16's favor vs. the B18's. But rightnow power isn't as critical as it use to be. Ther is alot of high 600 whp cars in the low 10's or high 9's and ther is alot of 800 whp car just touching high 9's and running alot of low 10's. Traction is more important than big power rightnow. To run SFWD class you need at least 650whp and a good powerband to put it down. I think the B16 has an slight adavntage when it comes to powerband wher traction is a concern. Lower torque than B18 with high peaking topend powerband. I know on the streets alot of times a B16 turbo will hand a B18 turbo his *** while he puts on a tire spinning show. Just my 2 cents

How much boost on each setup to get these numbers? I would imagine the 84mm setup is running a little less, but I'd love to know what your two were running.

That is great info.

ETA: I now see (from your sig) that you were running 34lb on your setup, so do you know how much your buddy was running? Also, what turbo you each chose to run on your setups? If you are in an extra generous mood, a dyno plot (of at least yours) would be extremely helpful as well. Thanks!
