Default Testpipe--> Cat problem

Sup guys, I've been running a testpipe for a while now. Since I have had the testpipe on my car, my engine has begun to go bad. I'm blowing smoke, most likely due to bad piston rings. I want to run a high flow cat these days because I'm hearing a lot about random cat checks in my city, but my friend tells me that if i try to put a cat/high flow cat on my car with my engine burning oil, the burnt oil will eat my cat up in an instant. Does anyone know if this is true? I want to be street legal, and i sure as hell dont want to pay a several thousand dollar fine and have my car impounded. Thanks.

sorry, i didnt mean to say that the testpipe made my engine go bad. I know the testpipe has nothing to do with the engine. I was saying that i havent been running a cat since my engine began to take on a lot of wear, but now i want to run a cat because of the random cat checks, but my friend says its a bad idea to do that because the burning oil will eat up the fibers in the cat. I want to get a high flow, but if its just gonna be eaten up because of the burning oil, then i dont want to spend the money.
