Default changing brakes?

I am changing to a new motor and wanted to upgrade the brakes as well. I was wondering what kind of brakes you guys would recommend. I was thinking about getting the ITR 5 lug conversion, so I could just get some rims with it too, but it might be a bit too pricey for me. What else would you recommend, and keep in mind that I have 14'' blackies on right now, so I don't want to hear "get some 12'' fastbrake rotors, and willwood calipers." This is for a 92 cx hatch, so right now I have the small disc in the front and the drums in the back.

The type R brake conversion with all Honda parts is very good, but virtually requires 15" wheels. I've been very happy with mine. (no - not the five lug conversion, the conversion with Accord Wagon calipers, and Prelude VTEC rotors redrilled to 4x100).

I know you could use the prelude rotors, and the 91-97 wagon calipers, but why did you redrill it too 4 x 100. Why not keep the 5 x 114.3? Did you get the master cylinder, and brake booster, and all that stuff, or just the essentials. Were the calipers easy to find? Also how much did this final conversion cost you without rims? I could always go and get some rims if the conversion is not through the roof.

the rotors need to be redrilled to 4x100 unless you plan on doing the 5-lug changeover...

and that's the old fastrakes ITR upgrade: redrilled lude rotors, the wagon calipers, and the modified caliper mounting mounting bracket. i know all this, cuz i have that kit. but i'm upgrading to the wilwood kit shortly (i have all the parts at home).
the calipers and pads can be found a any parts counter. (i've bought reman'd calipers for $36 each.)

additionally, amost ANY brake upgrade will require a minimum of 15" rim.
you dont need a larger master cylinder with just that upgrade, although many will recommend it. however, if you switch from rear drums to disk --and-- any front brake upgrade, you'll definitely need it.

Steve

Get the GSR front setup not pricey @ all and should fit your 14 inch steelies. Thats what I have and it stops alot better than it use to!got mine for $150 you might want to upgrade your master cylinder and booster of a gsr as well, for that extra pressure. And can be bought for about $50 for both.

I was actually pretty set on getting the ITR 5 lug because about two months ago I could have gotten it all including rims, for $1,400, but now the place I was going to do it at doesn't have it anymore. The best price I got since then was $1300 without rims. Can you tell me more about using the VTEC prelude rotors and the wagon calipers. Would I do everything the same as the ITR changeover. What is the difference between the prelude rotors and the 98 and up ITR rotors. I wanted to have disk brakes all around, and the five lug wouldn't be bad either.

if u plan to spend 1400 to upgrade your brake before, why dont u spend 6-700 buck for wilwood or fastbrake 4 piston brake kit and the rest for a set of wheel?

if u get the 11 or 11.75 4 piston kit from fastbrake, it should cost around 700. and with the rest of the 700, u can get a set of 15 inch wheel and tire. like a rota and azenis, rim should be around 400-500 buck and tire is 65-70 a piece, so it should be around 700 bucks. then u have a brand new brake and wheel instead of a used.

First off, the 94 Prelude VTEC rotors are 4x113, not 5x114.3 - that is the Integra type R, or the Prelude type SH.

My buildup:
Prelude VTEC rotors (brembo) - $70
Machining Prelude VTEC rotors - $30
Accord Wagon Calipers (rebuilt - looked new) - $200
Civic EX steering knuckles - $50
Civic EX 15/16'th master cylinder - $10
Civic EX ABS brake booster - $15

The WEEK I spent grinding 5mm off the Accord Wagon caliper mounting bracket with a grinder 1/2 mm at a time - priceless.
