Default 90/91 to 88/89 sedan seatbelt conversion

Has anyone done this that can enlighten me? Does anyone know a write up? I hate the 90/91 seatbelts. They aren't safe and they're a nuisance. Any help would be much appreciated

edit: Here's what I think, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Would need 88/89 seat belts, A and B pillar trim. Paint to match if color isn't right. Remove old wiring that isn't needed. Swap seatbelts and you're done. Sounds right but I've never done it so I don't know.

Are you talking about the auto-seatbelts. If so, I hate those too...

Has anyone succesfully done this with a sedan?

I was actually gunna post sumthin like this. I was planning on doin the same thing cuz those seatbelts are horrible. The one thing that i noticed was on my 91 sedan, there were no bolt holes the back floor for the part where the bealt clips into when i pulled the carpet.??? All the bolt holes on the pillar are there though so i dunno. I guess you could just modify the unit that bolts to the seat in the 90-91 with the sholder belt and lap belt clip and take the sholder belt off or sumthin that might work. I dunno check itout and post up how it is in your sedan. Its gotta work somehow. Sorry i coulndt help more, that was my experience though.

I have no qualms about going to a chassis shop and having them weld in some sturdy mount points on the pillars for a successful install.

u see, on my point, it seem like u don't like da beat sliding back and forth. am i rite or wrong, please correct me.

its very difficult to change to 88 n 89 seat belt, on my 91 4dr civic, I unplug da sliding seat belt module which located behind da stereo deck and disconnect those two fuses on da battery terminal. but da belt still lock if u wouldda crash da front end. but i got lazy putting on seat so i leave it alone.

I have no issue with the belt sliding, I have issues with the system being bulky, heavy, severe limitations on seats, and did I mention arm-rests are almost a no go?

its not about comfort its about safety i was thinking about converting too. how about if you use the lap belt thats on the floor and run it over your shoulder like Tarzan.

the other point of the belts just bolts right in.

the manual bolt is longer and the autobolts are thinner and shorter you have to buy a longer one so it has room to swivel.

you can even mount this to the seat but its alittle close to you im gonna drill and mount them to the floor

since you removed the autobelts theres gonna be a damn beeping noise that beeps like crazy when ever the car is on 'on' but just unplug the little speaker behind the fuse box under the dash. hope this hleps some people out if anymore question just ask im the ginea pig

pretty cool. i wouldnt mess with my car though. ill leave it as is. you need to work around them, not take them off. they are meant to worth with the lap belt, then they are safe-ish. :D

back from the dead! i cant see most of the pictures that were posted above me. So im going to convert my 90-91 auto seat belts to manual 88-89 seatbelts. So far i bought the 88-89 seatbelts/retractors and belt clips. i didnt have enough for the pillar trim but next trip back to the yard ill buy the right trim.

We converted my friends 91 crx to 88-89 seatbelts so i think this may be the same concept. welding may be required

parts needed:

88-89 seat belts with built in retractors for pillar mounted seat belts for sedan
88-89 lap belt clip (mechanism drivers side with plug)
pillar trim throughout the headliner

Im going to work with my 90-91 seats so no need to buy the 88-89 seats.

10mm
12mm
14mm
17mm
phillips screwdriver
flat head screwdriver

since right now the autoseat belts dont function properly like open door and belts move. i have already disconnected the plugs to the seatbelt relays underneath the dashboard behind the console. So far its unplugged at both the sockets.

I have also took the time to go to the junkyard to buy the seat belt mechanism to convert my sedan from 90-91 seatbelts to 88-89 belts. Reason is because i want to use the oem armrest i have set aside, the autoseatbelt mechanism is too bulky
