alright i just upgraded my gsr with bigger garrett t3/t4 and i had a smaller t3 on it and yesterday after i had everythign hooked back up i took it down the road and i noticed that i was only getting 4psi on it and with my old turbo i was boosting about 7 psi well i was on my way back to the house to figure out what was wrong with it when i heard a loud BANG so i stopped and popped my hood and my wastegate had blown completly off from my manifold!!!!!! what in the hell could have caused this? somebody please let me know. thanks

 

What type of manifold are you running? Please don't tell me SSAC?

i dont mean my wastegate fell off either i mean it blew off i now have a hole about the size of a chips a hoy cookie on it...

how come it didnt do it with my old t3 on it?...and that doesnt explain why i was only boosting 4psi i mean i set everything up exactly the same and that was supposed to be a bigger better turbo you know?

 

stop everything and actually buy a decnt wastegate and manifold before,

the next boom is your motor!

 

why dont you try and help instead of critisizing his part choices....

what kind of wastegate was it...posibly a cheap one? could have been leaking ( means low boost) the spring stuck and allowed for pressure to build and bam.....maybe big detonation in a cylinder broke exhuast valve and forced pressure into your manifold causing a boom?

those r just my shots in the dark....

what i said is true, you cant expect cheap mechanical parts to be great in engineering and last long

if you wastegate is going to blow off the manifold who knows what could happen to the manifold!

rev hard is decent in quality and cheap in price. rev hard,drag,ect ect

 

the manifold cracked and the wastegate fell off. You paid $700 for a turbo kit, and it performed like a $700 turbo kit (I am kind of quoting someone on this). End of story. It has nothing to do with the turbo itself, some people have theirs crack within a few heat cycles, so sounds like you are one of the lucky ones

My exact thoughts.. you need a better manifold dude. Get a cast so this won't happen again.

 

cast also crack but not as likly as cheap ssac

 

A buddy of mine had the same problem. HE got the SSAC mani for $3 (no joke) and was gonna use it for a week till he got his Full Race. The first 6k pull he did it did the same thing. We took a torch to that piece of **** (respectively) and melted it down. Worst $3 he ever spent. Sell that mani to the next goy and save some money for a new one. If your on a limited budget leek for a cast inline pro.

 

shaft on the turbo siezed, causing exhaust pressure to build. forcing the pressure out the wastegate neck's ****-caked-welds blowing it into your radiator, making a big bang. do you like that story? now... on to the future.

get a new manifold and wastegate. look at underground racing cast manifolds(VERY CHEAP RELIABLE MANIFOLD, read: A/C comaptable and wont fkn "blow up").

 

I like my meutek manifold. Cast and has the wastegate at collector instead of on one cylinder runner.
