Windshield installation is something that should be left to an experienced installer (preferably a professional). It isn't something you should be doing yourself, as it is a very important safety item.

I don't know a single mechanic that would change a windshield themselves...

Forget safety item... if it leaks your life sucks... if it breaks your life SUCKS....

But fyi...

Remove outside trim around windshield and use a guitar string or any thin strong wire to break the seal from the sealer. Go around the whole outside edge of the windshield in a see-sawing motion... it's generally easier to do this with 2 people as there are going to be spots where you can't reach the outside and the inside at the same time.

Then remover the old windshield...

Clean off the area of all previous sealer, apply new sealer, follow instructions on sealer container as far as letting it set or not... install new windshield...

There may be some tabs holding down or aligning the windshield but you'll figure that out when you take out the old one...

Then generally people will tape part or all of the seam to ensure the glass gets held into the sealer well and that dirt/debri/water don't get onto the sealer while it's curing... although it's own weight does most of the work as far as holding it down goes.

Again... a civic windshield installed is generally at or under 200 bucks... I'd just pay to get it done.
