Default thorwing CEL #2? - and i am having temp gauge, overheating problems

hello everyone here's the quickest version i can write please take the time to read and help me out.

i searched but cannot find out what a CEL #2 is.

my temp gauge went up last night (i was a block from home)

now my lights in the car are alot dimmer than they ever where before.

about a month ago i had jumped the thermo-switch on my car to turn the fans on because the switch never did (this caused the fans to only go on when the car was on.)

now the fan stays on unless i pull out the wire i used to jump the thermo switch, even when the car is not on (it never did this before and shouldn't because the thermo-switch is not controlled by the temperature anymore (instead it is always on just when the car is on)) so i have no clue why this is happening.

so now when i start the car the gauges go dim and when i turn on the low beams the temp gauge goes all the way up and then slowley goes back down.
then after about 3 minuted the temp gauge starts to show overheating, not sure if this is the actual case though.

i replaced the thermostat about 1 month ago so i doubt that this is causing the problem. and also my throttlebody cable seemes to be broke(it is stuck and barely moves) so i just disconnected it

thanks to all who read this and also to those who help me out.

summary: throwing CEL 2. temp gauge giving me problem, car overheating, replaced thermostat a month ago. i jumped thermo-switch(broken) a month ago but now it is staying on(when it should just be on when the car is on) so i unplugged it and it shuts off.

looks like a ground wire on the drivers side near valve cover got burned some how.

it was not connected and the wire cover was fried. once i connected the two loose wires this seems to have fixed the problem.

so always check all you ground wires
