Burning Coolant. !?!?!?!
So heres the thing, I have a 95 dc4 with a b20 swap. The swap has about 100k miles on it now.
Its overheated once about half a year ago. I couldnt tell if it did any damage at all. Since than I've been compulsive about checking the coolant. I top it off about once every 3 days. So every 3 days I pour about half a cup on coolant in. I'm almost positive I'm burning coolant. I see the white smoke on occasion but my oil isnt milky at all. I'm sure its the head gasket but if it was wouldnt I be burning a lot more coolant?
I also just put a new thermostate in 3 days ago. My fan doesnt work and hasnt for about a year and I've had no problems.

wow...i have the same exact problem.......I need to add a cup of water every few days or whenever i remember, blows white smoke (5500+rpm) yet oil is not milky, replace my thermostat about year ago, fan doesnt turn on eversince i changed my radiator.....Ive checked all plugs/wires and seems to be fine.....actually I just noticed not to long ago that my fan isnt working...
could it be the cheap thermostat I bought at autozone and not reaching certain temperature to kick my fan?

You may have a small head gasket leak. A half a cup of coolant every 3 days is a decent amt. At least it's consistent though. I'd get that fixed asap, its just going to get worse and leave you stranded somewhere.
I would also fix that fan. Is that why the car overheated in the first place 6 months ago?

Yeah and lack of coolant. I was a moron and didnt check it regulary. I ordered a thermal fan switch already. Since it been colder in MN I havent worried about it too much. A winter project for me now.
Thanks for the reply.
Thanks for the reply.
Has anyone tried those headgasket seals? seen it on speed channel once.....supposed to pour it into the radiator....
sorry not trying to jack this thread but I think we just have the same problems and the question Im asking would benefit both of us...

You can try it but that stuff really sucks. I've bought a car that had it and the **** just clogged everything. It not only plugs the hole (doesn't always work), but it clogs the small crevices in the radiator, heater core, etc.

Yeah, when you overheated it warped the head and now coolant is leaking into the cylinder. You need to pull the head and have it milled and check the block for warpage. Replace with a new headgasket.
I've used barrs stop leaks before. It is that aluminum powder. It actually does work it stopped the coolant from burning. In some of the older caddys they put that stuff in the coolant in stock motors.
