Default After 3 EF's, I bought an EK hatch... Did I get ripped?

Well, I did what I never thought I would do. Bought a honda from the honda dealer themselves, haha
After owning a 1989 STD with a B16A, then a 1991 type R yellow DX with an LS swap and then a 1990 SI, I decided it was time for a different generation of hatchback. I looked for awhile but not too seriously until I came across an EK at the dealer... I never even thought to ask how much they wanted because I knew it would be WAY over priced. A couple days ago I got surious enough and stopped in to talk to them about it. They were asking $6999.00. Now granted it was a one owner car with a perfect interior and 70,000 original miles, I still wasnt sold on that price, not by a long shot. I drove the car, and all was perfect. At this point I was really liking the DX, so italked to them for awhile and got them down to 5500, I told them I would think about it. I went back today and told them 5 grand with tax title liscence and its a deal, they just called me back and agreed. So after talking them down 2 grand, I am driving it home in a couple hours. I may have paid a little too much but for a car with a new clutch, perfect interior, good paint and body, 70k miles and one owner with all service records, I think I came out ok. I will post some pics up later on today. What do you guys think, totally hosed or possibly a decent deal? EK hatch's arent very plentiful sround hear, nor is any honda hatch for that matter.

Plans are for a nice exhaust, skunk2 suspension, intake, header, 16inch wheels, type R grill and front lip. At that point I should have a nice daily driver civic that will be reliable for awhile.

thanks for the feedback,
-Marc

i think you did fine.

i actually did the exact same thing about 2 months ago. i went to a dealer and found a black 98 hatch, perfect interior, one owner, and only 78k, for 7500. new tires and fully serviced. i talked them down to 6400. so i think you got a better deal them me.

piece of mind is priceless.

It sounds like the car has been well taken care of, so good deal IMO.

So I guess I came out ok, the car is in great shape overall, there are a few scuffs in the interior, nothing big at all, and one small inch and a half wide dent in the hatch, not noticable though. Car runs perfectly. I will post some pictures later on today. Still trying to decide on what rims I want to go with, and what size.. 15's-17's, not sure which yet. I want to put it on Slunk2 springs here after winter.

You sure you want Skunk2 on there? I just took the springs off of my DX hatch and I don't miss them for a second. Way too low, IMHO.

A 99 with a swap? I dont want other people's projects, I wanted what I got man, a one owner low milage virgin, not some rigged car with a swap that I have no idea about. I work on my own ****, not buy other people's projects. That being said, I wouldnt want another swapped car anyway, SOHC turbo for me.

As for the skunk2's, I had them on my last SI with tokico Blue struts, awesome ride, great look IMO. Not sure how low they make the EK's though, maybe you have a valid point, any pics of an EK on skunks?
thanks for the replies!

i'm not gonna say u got ripped or not but Ek's are becoming kinda pricey nowadays, its just depends on what condition there in and who/where ur getting it from!

btw i got my Ek ****** w/a GsR swap,CF hood,ACt Clutch/pp,etc........all the regular BS for 5K. so like i said its where u look

That is the one I bought with Skunk2 Springs on it. I noticed that on the rear the tires actually hit the tire well and caused some chunks to be cut out of the outter edge of the tire.

I put some Vogtland springs on it this weekend with a 1.6" drop. Doesn't look quite as aggressive but the ride quality is a thousand times better.

99 with a swap? Yea, if you bought it straight up cash with a salvage title.

Considering the condition, location and all, I think its an okay price.

Exactly, I dont want a car that has a bumper that doesnt lign up perfectly, or fender that doesnt have equal gaps all around, I want my **** perfect and original. I have had pre molested cars before, its nothing but a headache.

not a bad deal i gues i paid 2300 for my 96 but yea imo skunk 2 stuff is overpriced and a waste if you liked your tokico blues and skunks you probally never had a nice suspension i say go find a new friend and go for a ride with someone with ksports or d2 or somthing like that also you prob wont feel a lot of gains by doing a header or intake.

I think you did ok, considering the fact that you bought it straight from the Honda Dealership. I paid close to 8 grand form my 97, back in 2001.

I don't mind paying a premium for a car if it's what I want. At that point it really only matters if it was worth it to you, IMHO.

I gave $4,000 for mine that I linked above and I have no problem with that at all even if it was slightly premium. It was what I wanted and it was available right when I needed a car.

Its nice to buy a car that you know has not been tampered with. Even if you pay a little more for it.

thats the exact same reason that i bought my car. eventually tho i will swap it but not for a while. i like the fact that i can mod the car exactly how i want.
