Help with Choosing Bearings for Rods, Mains, and Piston Rings
Ok guys..i just got my H22a machined and i need some help getting all Bearing for the Rods and Mains. Also need help on sizing for the Piston Rings. I have my block Honed so that i can have new rings put in. How do i determine what bearing sizes to get? I was reading the service manual and i was a bit confused. If anyone can lead me into the right direction of where to look and what measurments( if any) i need to take when choosing bearings.
The piston rings, i just needed to be clearified on one thing. Can i just get Standard Size rings? Block was just honed not bored.
Also....I had the head and block decks resurfaced to take any warpage out. The blcok was Decked .006 thousandths and head was Decked .004 thousandths. Would you advise that i get a thicker headgasket than the oem standard, which i believe is .026 thick. This is just for safety precautions so i dont bend any valves and Ruine a good engine. If im wrong please correct me.
One more thing...should i get my crank balance and polished, plus piston and rods balanced? IS it worth it performance wise and Engine Reliabilty wise??? My machine guy said he'll do it for about $160.
Any and ALL help will greatly be appreciated. Im just trying to get everything right the First time and i know theres alot of knowledge to be shared on HT.com. Thanks Guys! Let me know what you think!

all you have to do is measure EVERYTHING, then you determine what conditions your motor will be run at therefor deciding if you need to make minor adjustments to factory spec measurements. every piece of that motor needs the specs to be PERFECT, you cant just expect someone walk You through the whole procedure. Read your *** off some engine building books. They tell you everything, one suggestion, dont rush your build. It's worth taking your time if you want quality.

Ok...my confusion about the bearings and plastigauge was... Do i buy new bearings and plastigauge those? or do i use the old ones and plastiguage those?? the only prob imma have with that is...i was dumb and didnt keep the old main bearings in order. i have them but i have no clue which one goes to which main. Thanks guys..i will def. read up. thanks
Honda blocks are stamped in different locations with bearing codes, you have to match them up to find the right size. Its in the Helms manual, the mains will be the same unless you use a different crank.
The rods can be tricky, they should be marked half way between the rod and cap. If you have #3 rods then eagle rods are a direct fit using the same bearings your block and crank are marked for.
If your rods are different diameters at the big end, as in not all are #3, then if you use aftermarket rods you buy a green set off bearings which is the middle size and work from there.
If all this is not making sense you should talk to a reputable shop.
This information is from my experience building B series, so you should ask someone who has built H series blocks to make sure I am right about the numbers and bearing colors.
Goodluck.
Disregard the aftermarket rod crap, if you are rebuilding using the stock rods just go by what the markings on the block tell you.
