Default Best way to remove surface rust from my hood?

My hood is fully rusted on the surface. I tried sanding the **** out of it but it doesnt get it evenly at all, and its almost impossible to get the rust from around the raised parts of the hood

Whats the best way to remove the rust.

try naval jelly - it's phosphoric acid jelly that eats rust and kicks *** on rusty bolts. I used it on a heavily rusted and pitted sway bar - it works well, you just need to wash it off and reapply several times. It takes a while to do but costs very little effort

If you cant figure out how to get rust off your hood, your an idiot and shouldnt be doing body work on your car. Hire a professional, who can "Figure" out how to remove the rust w/o it coming back which might require painting the hood to since Im guess its in primer or bare metal

An Angle Grinder with a Sold disc wont work, itll cut through the metal..

Get an angle grinder with one of those flimsy 3M discs, itll work awesome

You should shut your ******* mouth. I wasnt born with the knowledge of the most efficient way to remove rust from my hood. I am here to LEARN so suck my ********.

Anyway, i used my powerdrill and a mesh disc that was made of bristle things..and it sanded the **** out of the rust, but some of the rust is deep,

So im wondering if I get as much and primer it, if the primer will stop the rust. What kind of primer do i need, if special

If the rust has made deep pits in the thin sheet metal I would just buy a new hood. It's not like you have some classic car with rare body parts, for 150 bucks you can have a perfect one that is ready for paint. Better quality and less work ftw

There are no pits or anything close to that. its rust thats not at the surface, a little under. The hood is still perfectly strong. I am wondering what primer will stop the rust from growing back

Take 3 pics man whole hood and up close. Take a piece of SOS pad and see if the actual metal is pitted. If the metal is pitted. Just buy another hood cause the damage would of already ocured.

Rust is like cancer and will no go away. Remove it by sand blasting it or using an orbital sander (aka DA), then use Metal Prep on it to kill the rust. Then prime that thing to prevent from rusting again. Metal Prep needs to soak the work piece for a minute then need to be brushed off when rinsing. After rinsing off the bare substrate, Metal Prep will leave a galvinzied coating to protect from rusting that last about a few days if the work is left outside and will last about a week if its kept inside the garage or storage.

Bottom line something like a hood is easy to replace. I would buy a new one. No matter what you will need it to get primed and painted. A new hood will cost around 150-200 already primed. If you buy a new hood you will not need to worry about the bondo cracking later on.
