Getting into karting

I'm race starved. Since I won't have an adequate garage to house or work on any sort of new auto-x project for a while, I was talking to some friends about getting into Rotax karting. I know next to nothing about karting except we have a pretty good circuit here in Austin (Iron Rock Raceway) and it's not nearly as costly as auto-x or road racing. Anyone know what the startup costs for a good/decent used kart might be? Type of maintenance and related costs? Etc?
If I had more time, I'd type a lengthy reply to answer your questions.
I'm sure some others will chime in, but http://www.ekartingnews.com is the number one source for information on karting. Hands down. Great forum on there as well.
And karting is a blast!
Good luck,
AJ

i would imgine you could get a rotax for 2-3k depending on condition and spares.
i just sold my tony kart 125 for $3.5k and that was with a fresh ring and piston.
like aahj had mentioned.. http://www.ekartingnews.com is a great site

the most important thing is competition. go to your local track and see what classes are well subscribed. id love to do rotax/TAG but there just arent anyone racing those karts in this area. yamaha KT100 based classes are pretty popular nationwide, and they are cheap to run
