dont launch, you just gonna sit and spin on stock tires, i just feather out the clutch and roll it off the line at the track, i keep the rpms around 3000

lol, what kind of advice is that?

he is asking because he obviously wants to know the fastest way to launch the car for racing/drag

and feathering at 3k is not fast

I would warm up your tires real nice, drop the pressure on the front tires to life 20psi.

And i would slip off the clutch very fast at around 5k-5500 rpms, so that you are close to vtec, but not IN vtec during launch.

with the mods you have, if your on a decent set of tires like azenis, you could come off the clutch pretty fast at 5k and get minimal spin.

i use to launch my stock R at 5500 on warmed up azenis and pulled 2.0 60fts and mid-high 14's

your advice is no better than his.....

unless he is on drag slicks, there is no reason to warm up the tires.....especially in the burnout box..... all you do w/ street tires is drag a bunch of water and **** down the track...... ruining the prepared surface

bad advice

to the o.p the few times i took my r to the strip, i would rev to between 4500 and 5500 and slowly feather the clutch.....this netted me 14.3 in stock itr....

i started drag racing DSM's in 98 before i found out how much fun it was to corner at high speeds and purchased a R or two

yeah normally i would pull around the box and warm them up a little bit before staging and rev it around 4500-5k rpm and feather it. i'm running 14.9's the way it sits but i blame my dead shocks in the rear for that. i'm getting 16's around december shipping is taking it about 3 months. i'm going to buy the azenis for those but i'm just running dunlops on my stock ITR wheels. they're ok but good tread wear. but the season is over and i live extremely out in the country the nearest neighbor is 1 1/2 miles away, they just paved the roads over summer and the weather is still good. i'm just getting in some extra practice and am trying to get a little faster with my g-tech.

3000-3500rpm feathering clutch...best time is 14.3 (on RSM) and 14.63 at the strip.

who said anything about the water, drive around it

i use to do a lot of drag racing

I hope you didn't do alot of drag racing with azenis b/c any person who really drag races will tell you that a stiff sidewall is not good. The tread maybe soft but when you go to launch, you actually want the sidewall to wrinkle a bit.

unless it is a drag radial, or drag slick, this is counter productive.... a regular street tire will get the vht stuck in the tread and will drag it, and other particles down the track....and this will cause unwanted wheelspin.....

rev it to 6000 rpm and feather the clutch ..
once you let go the clucth ( feathering) give less gas and once it grips.. WOT

yea i ran slicks a few times when i was running a 75 shot, when i launched it at about 8k also i was pulling 1.6 60ft times i launching at 6000 is more of a just for fun with me because when i do launch in vtec all the tires do is spin spin spin and spin some more and once i start going i want to go i dont want to let off a little bit just to hook up when i can just launch at a lower rpm and hook up right away or just spon a little bit. so far feathering at about 5k is doing pretty well

One of the best write ups I've ever read on launching and helped me improve on my LS. Make sure you scroll down to read part 2 where he adds more.

Have fun launching your cars guys...

can't wait to see your future thread here on the forum.. I can see it already.

'Man, my transmission is making all these sounds, wtf???' then you go and get a quote from acura for a thousand dollars to tear out your tranny and replace all the BEARINGS you grenaded!!!!

Its cool if you are into drag racing, but you gotta PAY to PLAY.. keep that in mind

you have to pay to do anything and everythiing nowadays, and for me atleast if i'm going to fix it i'll fix it better. i wouldn't take it to acura i'd do it myself. my car has never been to the dealer for anything except for when i bought it. or any other dealer for that matter. i've done it all myself and i intend to keep it that way.

I agree. Street tires do not have to be warmed up while staging. Drag Radials don't even need much.
