rust is like cancer. would you put a cancerous tumor into your body to save some dollars?

They're still look useable, but what happens when one breaks from rust?

Should be able to take it right off, although that one that you took a close up look on looks pretty bad you might need to sand blast then shot peen it as well.

Now that i looked closer those are just stock rods anyway. What i would do is take those pistons and put them on your rods.

2 options;

if you just need a set of working rods for the daily beater (BEATER, as in 200k and still goin)
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by crimsonv4mpire &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">sand blaster.</TD></TR></TABLE>

if you plan on doing any performance mods later

See this picture:

On the left rod you could see some markings that come out PR3 which is a B16 rod. P73 is i believe Type R rods, PR4 is LS/B20, P72 - GSR. Look at all the rods and see whats stamped on.

Try putting them in some coke for a bit... its only surface rust they should clean up nice. You may want to use some steel wool too.

Once you've cleaned the coke off put some oil or another corrosion inhibitor on them if your not going to use them right away.

So these are all pr3, which is b16. So i could put these in a b16 just like this and be higher compression.

Clean them up and use them, it looks like that's just surface rust.

Why?

Use a die grinder and a Roloc to clean the rust off. It will take all of two minutes.

I agree, clean them don't ditch them. Soak them with some rust penetrant such as PB Blaster or WD40. Let them soak for a bit then hit them with some steel wool. Next clean them & oil them up like a couple of stripppers on a slip & slide....you get the point
