Few people have been telling me that if you change the vtec solinoid spring to a much stiffer one, you can notice gains.
I've never really heard of that but then again how does the spring actually work in the solinoid. What happens when it is compressed and then decompressed
One more thing, when does the spring compress ( what part in vtec engagement does the spring kick in (order wise)
Thanks,

I'm not sure what people told you that, but I'd suggest never listening to them again. That information is completely false. VTEC is a binary system. It is either engaged or it isn't. Assuming it is functioning to begin with, modifying the solenoid isn't going to provide any gains whatsoever.

Actually, I believe there is a spring in the bottom of it that pushes the actuator up when vtec is not engaged (thus, oil pressure pushes it down and the spring pops it back up after vtec disengages and the oil pressure creases). However, you're right that it is an oil actuated plunger and if anything a stiffer spring would make it so that vtec doesnt engage at all.

It wont matter, softer spring, stiffer spring....its not going to open until the solenoid allows oil to pass through and depress the spring.

If you were to put a softer spring, do u thinik it would dump more oil, causing it burn wrong, ie.. black smoke???
