so, according to my mechanic i've got a cv joint bust, i'm just wondering how much labor this should be...............or if anyone here locally wants to do it for some $. lol. i'm a broke college dude, what's new?

 

if u do it yourself, axle is like 100 bucks. CV bust means get a new axle, much easier than replacing the boot and having it break on you later.

 

hello im a mechanic in the uk and i dissagree i can do the job in 25 mins without removing joint or shaft but theyll charge you an hour + part

 

yea that's what he's charging, ~100 for axle and ~75 for labor :/

 

if its just thecv boot thats gone you dont need an axle the boot kit is $25

 

Dealerships will charge anywhere from 1 1/2 -3 hours to do a cv boot a side.

You can do it yourself in 20-30 minutes its not that hard at all and don't remove the shaft just be careful with the splines when you put the outer joint back on. If your not your gonna be having fun with a file haha.

At infiniti we charge 3 hours a side. i love higher end cars

thats not a bad price, and no matter how you cut it, you're going to have to buy new axles soon. so just get the axles and do it yourself, its incredibley easy. will take 30min tops including the time needed to jack up the car and remove wheels, etc.

its not hard once all the bolts are off....thats where you lose the most time.

not true at all if they are clicking then they won't be lasting very long. if they are not means they are still filled with grease and it hasn't all been slung out of it yet. So that manes you buy the boot repack the bearings and bam your ok. I do it at least 2 times a week and have been for 5 years now. You will be fine if you got it early

 

DIY

 

you might not even need to replace the whole damn axle. you could probably clean off the joint, put new grease, and put a new boot on and yer good. it'd cost you WAY less.
