Default The truth about camber / toe.

Alright, so I after seeing that my tires were unevenly worn, I went to get an alignment (with no camber kits). My toe was in about 0.5 degrees all around, which they adjusted to 0.1. My rear camber was off by -2.8. My front camber was off by -1.6. Heres my question. I used the bolt / washer trick in the rear to get my rear camber to about (-0.8) and used a skunk2 camber in the front to get to 0.0. So, my question is, will me changing the camber AFTER the toe was aligned affect my toe SIGNIFICANTLY enough to where I'd need another alignment?

Please go have your toe set agian.

Its always the last adjustment you do in an alingment becuase everything effects it.

I'd personally suggest more negative camber front and rear, and having it aligned again once you set it.

i agree maybe .5-.7 in the front and almost 1 - 1.3 in the rear.

Because negative camber improves the handling characteristics of the vehicle. There's a good reason why most cars come set up with some degree of negative camber from the factory.

agreed 100% not only because im an ASE certified tech that did alignments for 6+ years, but because thats factory specs.

AND YES, CHANGING THE CAMBER DRAMATICALLY CHANGES TOE, WHY DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE TO GET AN ALIGNMENT AFTER DROPPING A CAR, CUZ IT CHANGES THE CAMBER.

Another reason for the little camber that you want in the front (i dont know to much about having it in the back) But whenever you go from a light or stop or anything the motor lifts, causing the tires to raise. If you have say .5 negative, when you go you bring it to about 0.

you should definatly have you alignment redone i would sugest just buying a one year alignment so you can go back as many times as you need to for free. ive got skunk2 cambers front and rear and i have mine checked like once every few months.

yes, you messing with the camber afterwards will mess with the caster and toe in the rear. just look at how its set up and you'll notice.

more negative camber will be better in turns...but if youre not the type to take on turns anyway, why add more camber?

Correct, camber affects toe, but toe doesn't affect camber. But, as per the second part of your statement, a little camber is good. I don't know if this is what you were saying, but anywho.

okay so I understand to set it to maybe .5-.7 in the front and almost 1 - 1.3 in the rear. So with the skunk2 front camber kit, I can set the front to .5-.7 and as far as the rear, if camber now is 2.6 - 2.8, then maybe 2 washers each side or 1 for the trick?

well you could PROBABLY get away with only putting a camber kit in the rear.

idunno how much washers you'd want to rock though. it doesnt take long to put on, why not just try it out?

so, if my rear camber is about -3 in the rear, then 2 washers on each side should put it around -1 right (where I want it to be)?

2 washers was good for 1.5° on my car. i wouldnt go more then 2 washers though. -1.5 isnt bad in the rear as long as toe is good.

okay, I got the rear set. As far as the front, if I have the toe set perfect and the camber is -1.5 on each side, would you say to bother with a camber kit or just leave it?

-1.5 is nothing. leave it. in my testing, more then -2.75 will cause issues with accelerating and stopping. you have half that.
