Default difference between 90-93 teg linkage and 94-01 teg linkage...EG swap concerns

I have the linkage from the donor 91 teg for my eg hatch install but my friend is saying it will require modification to work correctly.

whats different between the 90-93 linkage and the 94-01 linkage that makes the 94-01 linkage the one you need?

I cant use the 90-93 linkage at all?? if I can, what are the modifications that I need to do??

I was under the impression that it would bolt in just fine but that my shifter would be a little farther forward in the console....
