Default new to my integra ls, have some newb questions

hi ht,

i just bought my 1994 ls two days ago and already into the brief ownership, ive got some burning questions.

first, as i attempted to change the oil today, i found that the oil drain plug was rounded a bit and i went to kragen to buy a new one. what is the size of the wrench needed to get the nut off?

second, the car alarm is confusing the hell out of me. it has also gone off for no particular reason (or so it seems). when i was working on the car today, i reached into the rolled down window to unlock the car and the alarm went off. so i just stuck the key into the ignition and turned it a few times. it stopped after awhile by itself.

third, the guy i bought the car off lost the master key and now all i have are two fobs and the basic key which only operates the ignition. is there a way to create a key for the door locks?

fourth, the fobs have three buttons on them. the middle one locks and unlocks the car, what do the ones on the side do?

fifth, there is an on/off switch above the driver window switches; what does that do?

and lastly, there are two wires leading to the car battery that are somewhat frayed. should that be a worry?

thanks in advance.

yes you can get keys cut for just the doors. they wont start the ignition obviously but thats that. Also, the on/off switch is for the passenger side child/safety lock for the window.

also if the plug was rounded off you might need to get a kit for rounded off bolts. i think its like 20$ at advanced or auto zone and comes with like 6 dif. sizes...

thanks,

do you think a place like jiffylube or a honda/acura mechanic could get those off?

if i cant get the bolt off with a clamp tomorrow then i plan on taking it somewhere to get the oil change done. then i can just request that they put in the new bolt that i bought.

also if your door key is dif from your ign. key you may have to see your dealer about getting the key cut. they should have all the info and a cutter there. just be sure to have everything with you when you go to prove its your car

how much would it cost at the dealership? and would a locksmith be able to do it?

one of the remote fobs is already falling apart and if the other one fails, then i wont be able to get into my car.

The basic key should still open the doors....unless the ignition has been replaced. Acura can cut a new key from the VIN for like $6....and its an OEM key, thus its better then a locksmith key....plus a locksmith will likely only be able to cut a key the same as you already have. The oil pan drain bolt is a 17mm if I remember correctly. The alarm does NOT sound like its stock. Ofcourse the alarm is going to go off if you reach in and unlock the car through the window (what good is an alarm if you can slim jim the door and it doesnt go off)?

thanks,

the basic key doesnt open either door, nor the trunk or glove box.

looks like im going to the dealership to get a new key if its that cheap. do they need any specific info?

the bolt i bought is 15mm so it might be off. do dealerships sell these?

also, the alarm is stock, i did exactly that to set it off. now my question is, what makes it shut up?

Dont use SAE sockets when you need a metric. 11/16" is actually 17.46mm which is probably why the drain bolt is going to round off in the first place. Its generally not too bad when dealing with the larger bolts, but its time to learn how to use metric stuff since the entire car is metric.

sounds like you have an alarm with the heat sensor or motion sensor installed.

Uh, no. Even the factory alarm will go off if you reach in through the window and hit the unlock button.

1:Not sure. i always get my oil changed professionally
2:Must be aftermarket alarm..not sure why it goes off..did it get set?
3:go to Acura dealer..you can get New keys made (acura keys)
4: Most likely a Panic Button..and trunk release. What security system is it? Mines Karr..my middle button is unlock/lock other two are panic and trunk
5: locks the windows
6:probly should be replaced..sounds like the battery cables..can cause some troubles.

i dont think 94 Ls's came with stock alarm systems.. my 96 didnt.

thanks for your helpful replies,

today i got the integra smogged (it passed), and the oil changed by a mechanic.

the mechanic said that my abs light isnt supposed to be on? (its lit whenever my car is on)

a few days ago, i glanced over the manual and thought it said that the lights were supposed to be on. so what is the case? im going to go check out the manual to see if i cant find the info.

manual says that the abs light should shut off when the engine is on so i have an abs problem.

question, are old hondas/acuras prone to fluid leakage? and if i just top it off, how long would it last? what other fixes/solutions are there?
