Default HELP!! My car stalled on the freeway pass.

I managed to get it home and in my apt parking space for only 40 bucks, I got extremely luckly. What could cause a sudden stop, I was drving through a green light and all of a sudden no power. The car just rolled to a stop right in the middle of the damn intersection. Spark plugs were replaces, awhile back it turns over. Could it be timming belt? I brought it into the shop less than a year ago and he said the timming belt looks good. Any suggestions?

Edit: Forgot to mention 4 dr sedan 91 DX bone stck. 184k

That happened once to me when I had a crx hf. I was driving home and it happened to just turn off. Luckily I was already on my street. It turned out to be the timing belt. You should just take off the timing belt cover and check it out.

^I've had problems with my main relay for like 2 years almost. When the car is pretty hot and I stop at the gas station. Turning the car on again after like a 3 min delay it dosent start. I have to wait for like 10 minutes then turn the car over for it to start.

Could the main relay cause the car to actually crap out like that when it was just running?

Happened to me too with my old distributor. It wouldn't start and I had it towed to my house for 60 bucks (may I add I was only 2 blocks away..... I should've just pushed it back home). I took out the ECU fuse to reset everything and it started right up, literally 2 minutes after I paid the bastard 60 bucks.. lol

I'm starting to inspect and dedided to start with the Main relay hopefully this is it because I couldn't get my timing belt cover off to check if it broke.

Picture.. how do I get my main relay out of this damn box!!

Edit: Spark plugs were replaced and so was cap/rotor I'm sure of like 4-5 months ago.

The main relay only needs the black cover popped off, then you can see the solder contacts. Use some good flux & solder (60tin/40 lead always works for me) and resolder all the contacts. 2/3 the battle is getting the sucker out & back into the car! Before fixing, my EF wouldn't start on a hot day till I aired the car out (black interior).

Just dying could be a main relay issue, since I'd guess you had the heater on full-blast being in washington. It could also be an ignitor unit in the distributor gone bad.

if you havent fixed your problem yet you should check your distributor..take the cap off and see if your distributor rotor screw is loose or possibly fell off..ive had the rotor come off a few times and made my car do exactly as what you described..good luck!

really amazed people are just rambling off random parts. Ya they could be it, but why not just narrow it down first. Does it turn over? Does it have spark? Is the fuel pump turning on? Do you have fuel at the rail? etc. Those are some of the question you need to be answering first and then narrow it down from there.

Yager-

I had this exact thing happen to me just a few weeks ago. I was pulling off a ramp onto a road and accelerating, shifting from 2nd to 3rd to pass a slower car and then the car just shut off. I started to check the 3 required parts for an engine to run: Fuel, Compression, Spark. You can check the timing belt by just removing the oil filler cap and having someone crank the engine over, if you see the cam turning, your timing belt is fine. Listen when you turn the key to the accessory position for the fuel pump to prime, if it does it should be ok to at least try to start the engine. To test spark, pull a spark plug wire out and hold the end close to a good engine ground (the acorn nuts on the valve cover come to mind) and see if there is an arc when someone cranks the motor over. This is where mine was lacking, no spark. It turned out it was the ignition coil, it was completely melted at the contact point with the cap. It also melted the cap and rotor. I replaced the ignition coil, cap, rotor and cap gasket and it started right up. Good luck.

why buy a new relay when you can solder the old one. i never soldered a thing in my life and i managed to fix my main relay. its cheaper to buy a solder gun

Say what the symptoms are first and respond with appropriate responses.
