Default Powersteering Idea

So i had an epiphany today on the way to school....

I took my powersteering out, i currently have my lines looped with a can and a breather on it to keep the rack lubricated and allow air to escape. Not having powersteering has it's good and bad points. I really don't mind it in parking lots, but i like to palm the wheel a lot and sometimes it's a pain in the ***, plus on some corners it requires a little too much effort...

but i HATE regular powersteering, no feedback at all....

So i was thinking if i could re-install my pump and can back on, and modify the pressure that the rack recieves. I believe an average powersteering system uses about 1000 psi, so i was thinking of cutting it in half (or more) so it wouldn't work so much. I was reading in the service manual that the pressure relief valve has a spring in it, which i assume can change the relief pressure. I figure i can put a weaker spring in ( or cut the spring) for less pressure, to make it more like assisted steering rather than powersteering; hopefully making it more of a dampner so potholes don't send me into trees. Any ideas?

(in feeney voice) Well Mr matthews

If you'd have read my post more carefully, you'd see that i don't have a problem with parking lots, i just don't like the fact that the road has a little more control over the steering wheel than i'd like. I drive shitty new england roads and they tend to steer the car.

The power steering pressure varies... so swapping of the "spring" wont work. If you ever noticed....on the parking lot fluid pressure helps you to turn the wheels ( high pressure value on the outer side to the corner), whereas on the highway power steering pressure not as high and it actually helps to keep your steering in place (which means pressure on both sides in the steering rack.).........so think about it..

so..you got an s2k? im assuming so cause of your sn. but s2k's have a fine amount of feedback. just gotta get used to it like any other car.

but you could change the size of the pulley to a bigger one so that the power steering doestn have so much power.

wrong

i have a civic, the 2k is because the car is year 2k

Anyway... I realize the pressure varies, that is the point of the pressure valve, to make more pressure at lower engine speeds. But what i'm saying here is, i know i still won't have an assist in parking lots, that's fine, but i want a little assist at around 3k rpm. Get my drift? something to prevent potholes from ripping the wheel out of my hand. Hence why i was thinking of modifying the pressure valve, making it almost always open.

well theres always the option of changing out the pulley for a bigger/smaller one.
