cotter pin fell out and led to this... :(
From this...
...to this...
...because of this...

A sad, sad day for the Integra.Long story short, castle nut and cotter pin fell out while I was making a u turn, the lower half of the suspension gave out, axel broke, and kicked the wheel out to a 45 degree angle, and that's what caused the body damage...mechanically it has been repaired...just needs some paint
It could have been a lot worse, I'm lucky I wasn't going very fast.
Plus this all happened in front of a towing company and a reputable speed shop
Yeah, about 12 months ago I did a auto to manual swap and that was the last time I ever touched the suspension, I didn't have any problems until yesterday.

Why not? If the cotter pin is there that won't ever happen. If the cotter pin is bent back on itself properly, there's no chance it could ever come out on its own.

shoot I had my cotter pins break off on me one time, because I tried to re-use old ones that I had taken out. So I cut some pieces of wire coat hanger and stuck it through the holes in the stud, wrapped the wire around the nut, and there it stayed for several months and many thousands of miles until I finally got around to ordering new cotter pins.
No problems at all, anything that you can bend to make it stay in the balljoint stud works fine to keep the castle nut from backing off.

BTW, I've also seen a similar thing happen on rod bolts (well the nut that goes on the stockers). It leads to a hole in the side of the block....which I'd probably prefer to this. A hole in the block doesnt really put me in danger, whereas this could've done so.
