I have a 92-95 jdm b16a out of a del sol (jdm). It's a obd1 motor and i am putting it in a obd2 car 98 ek hatch. What is the easiest engine harness to use , preferably one with the vtec lines already there? Should i get a 99 si harness or gsr obd2 harness and run a obd2-obd1 jumper harness?

If he uses that 98 EX harness, will that comply with OBD1 plugs that his JDM motor has???I would think he'd use that harness if the motor was 96+. This is like trying to make an ancient motor with a high tech wiring harness. Will there be trouble with his wiring for the injectors because I've heard that the motor and chassis should be the same OBD.

yep the easiest way for your year car and that year motor would be to get an 96-98 ex harness but you'll need to change the sensor etc plugs to obd1 plugs and get a obd2a to obd1 conversion harness... or you can use a straight out obd1 harness and rewire to fit into the ek chassis harness... eaither way you gonna have to cut wires dude. it would have been way simpler if your motor matched the car year and obd. GL wit the swap

 

Definitely use a 96-98 EX 5-speed harness, it will be the easiest to modify. You do not really need to hack it up much, basically just lengthen some branches to make sure it all plugs in. Don't even try to use an OBD1 harness and make it fit your EK hatch, it will be a pointless nightmare. It would be tons easier to just convert your DX harness to VTEC.

1) I recommend just selling or trading the OBD1 injectors from the B16 for a set of OBD2 injectors. Anything 96-up that did not come from a Y7 engine like yours will do fine. Then you don't have to cut/splice OBD1 injector plugs on there.

2) Distributor: open up your Y7 distributor, remove the clip/pin/drive gear from the bottom. Do the same with the B16 OBD1 dizzy. Then carefully remove all the electrical stuff from each and sway the Y7 guts into the B16 dist. housing. It will work fine and plug right into your engine harness.

Plug in an OBD2a-OBD1 conversion harness and your ecu and that's pretty much it. You can pretty much ignore plugs that don't have anywhere to go on the OBD1 motor (which should be only the crank sensor) If the OBD1 engine lacks a PCS (purge control solenoid) you can get a 99-00 Si fuel rail and take the PCS off your Y7 manifold, remove the bracket, and bolt it on there.

It's really a pretty uncomplicated procedure putting the OBD1 into OBD2, it's the other way around that is a problem.
