235 too wide for my 4th gen?
so this maybe a dumb question, but I am getting some new 16's soon and I was thinking about 235's. I had 225's for a while and they weren't bad at all. Is 235 too wide for my 4th gen? If I get em, what side profile should I be getting? I was thinkin 235/40 or 235/45
i have 235 45 17 in the back on 5gen and its ok but when going to the freeway on the ramp if i go 45mph it scratches the top side of the quater but 40mph goes in perfectly, and all ramps are different but 235 i think is too wide i wont be getting them again
on 225s, if you look at your tires. you might notice a big portion of the tire not being used for daily driving.
i wouldn't go bigger since its just a waste of money, UNLESS you road race/autox, even then its questionable if you need the 235 wide tires.

you are right.
unless you are getting some 16x8 wheels that is to much width for the rim
not to mention both of those sizes would be a pain in the *** to get.....did you try finding a set? It's not even close to a common size
225/45/16 or 205/50/16 are closest to stock diameter
not sure why you kids are in love with 215
and honestly the tire compound is more important than the width.....so before you go throwing money at a wider tire.....step up to a better one(usually more expensive)

235 wide 16" tires are hard to come by, but a 235/40/17 is a very common tire size. Tire OD will be about 0.4" larger than stock, but they'll fit. I had a friend with 17x8 SSRs with 235/40/17 tires.
I personally run 225/45/15 Hoosiers on my track car, and they're closer to a 245 width tire (9.8" section width) without too much trouble, and that's with +40mm offset wheels!
They do rub on the rear at full compression, but with 1,200 lb/in springs, there's not much suspension movement in the rear.
