heat problem
Just bought a 96 accord but has no heat, the cable that pulls the lever near the firewall letting coolant flow to the heater core is broken, however I tried opening it manually and let coolant flow it goes in and right back out through the other coolant line on the firewall but still no heat. All fuses are fine, maybe a bad heater core? Does it run off a different blower motor than the A/C?
Check a repair book for '96, but I think there's also an air door that has to open or close so air goes thru the heater core. I think there's one cable from the control **** to the air door & a second cable from there to the valve. Check that cable too, & verify that the door opens like it should.
Try hondaautomotiveparts.com (put in your car's details). Maybe those parts pictures are good enough to see what's going on?

I have the same problem. I'm wondering if it is related to when the radio blew a fuse. I replaced the fuse under the hood, and now the radio works, but the lighter doesn't. Recently I found out the heat doesn't work as well.
In the engine bay. There is a valve by the firewall (under the TB just a tad more to passenger side) that lets coolant flow for the heater. its stuck closed. I turned my heater toward the red and manually opened the valve, and I get heat. I turned the heater to blue and it closed the valve, but when I put it back on red the valve doesn't open. I have to manually open it again. I'll go under the dash tomorrow and see if the cable is broken or something.

replace the cable and test the control head. it may be bad (why you do not get any heat)

I noticed on my '98 that the heater valve doesn't move until you turn on the key.
