Default Bad o2 Sensor= No Power????

I'v been driving my car for a little over a week since it was swapped (JDM B16 SiRII). I'v been developing a problem. Over time the problem has got worse. It feels like the engine has no power sometimes. Sometimes it will hardley accelerate at all. THe only code I am getting is code 1 (primary o2 sensor) The weird part is that if I am at WOT all the power comes back after 6,000rpm's. I just want to get some opinions before I spend 150$+ on a o2 sensor.

Would a bad O2 sensor cause my engine to loose a considerable amount of power???

Thanks Honda-Tech

Just change it to get rid of the CEL. Then come back and let us know what happens

I'm pretty sure it's not the harness because I re-used the harness from my D series and that motor did not have the same problem.

So it's normall to loose a considerable amount of power from a bad o2 sensor?????

It depends on how it goes out but yes, you can loose a lot of power. And the computure ignores the O2S at full throttle. If the harness is good, replace O2S.

At WOT and/or high rpm operation, the ECU ignores the O2 input anyway - so what you're describing about the power about 6k is normal. O2 sensors don't last forever (75-90k) and need to be changed routinely....yours might need to be changed.

When the primary O2 sensor went out on my hatch, I had the same issue.

Just replace it. They're around $65 from http://www.sparkplugs.com.

I got a brand new o2 sensor and replaced it today. No difference. I'm still gettting a code 1 and the motor has no power.

You got a brand new...Bosch, Denso...what brand? Did it come with a connector already attached or did you have to do some wiring?

What's the setup anyway?

I got a bosch universal one. I am sure the wirring is right. I checked it 3 times to make sure.

My set-up is a basicly stock (intake and exhaust) JDM B16a SiRII motor in a 93 hatch.

Yes i reset the ecu. I took of the ground off the battery and pulled the ecu backup fuse.

Bosch and Honda ECU's don't get along all that great...mainly OBD2. I see you're OBD1 though - doesn't make you immune to the possibility. Add to the fact that it had to be wired and there's another variable. Can you take a pic of your wiring job?

Is the wire harness stock? What ECU?

I dont have a digital camera. My harness is completly stock. I'm running a JDM P30 Ecu. The car is doing the exact thing that it did with the old sensor, It has NO power untill 6000rpm's.

you tried checking how the wiring is pinned out? if thats the last thing to check then you should check it. maybe you hooked up the wrong o2? i know the civic has that primary and secondary.

but i'd check everything i could before i go and spend money. lol.

Figured it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A friend at a local shop figured it out for me. I re-used the VX harness for my JDM b16 swap, it seems that one of the o2 input wires on the VX harness stops at the connector on the passenger side shock tower. He re-pinned it and it's working fine now.

Maybe next time you have a problem, include what car it is. Telling us from the get-go it was a Vx, someone surely would have asked had you repinned the O2 wiring since it's something you have to do with a Vx.

Actually, it still does it. We switched one wire, is there another one??? It only does it after 4000rpms now and when there is alot of load on the engine under 4000rpm's.

so when you say you "checked" the wires...what did you do? just look at the wires on the 02? gotta test if the wires go where theyre supposed to. so break out the diagram and look at the pin outs and what not.
