what is the expected hp increase with a comptech ice box???
before i start i tried the search and found nothing! How much hp is gained with the comptech ice box, aem cai and iceman intake on a stock gsr?? what are the prices on each of these??
Yeah i was wondering the same thing because if the Comptech Icebox gives u the same as an AEM CAI then why not just go for the sleeper loo...But i know for sure the AEM will give more sound the icebox will most likely be more quit but ill be back to check...Later
Comptech claims an increase of 5-9 whp depending on the car. I have the Ice Box in my car and I can tell a big difference over my previous Injen short ram. I have ridden in my brother's Integra who has an AEM CAI and I have to say that the Ice Box pulls harder in the low to midrange (which is what you want if you aren't a constant track racer). The Ice Box sounds really nice, deep and throaty with minimal noise increase. Definitely better than the AEM in my opinion, the only downside is that Comptech=EXPENSIVE!!
Krow,
The Ice Box can be used in two different setups. (1) You can use the Ice Box on the stock intake tube, only replacing the stock airbox. This would have the ultimate sleeper look but wouldn't yield as much performance gains as setup #2. (2) You can use the Ice Box, and the Comptech short ram. This has the Ice Box only covering up the filter of the short ram, therefore you will see the metal intake pipe with a black airbox on the end. This is what I went with and what you should go with.
2000GSR,
The Ice Box has a much larger intake tube than the stock air box and is drawing air up from behind the turn signal. When used in combination with the short ram, you are getting just as much air flow as you would with an AEM CAI if not more. It may appear that it would be restricting because it is a box, but unlike the stock airbox, the Ice Box uses no baffles or sound deadening material inside the tube that will be detrimental to air flow. Also, like I said, the tubing is just much larger.
Good luck guys and have fun with that Ice Box. You'll like it a lot.

Just because the comptech intake tube is larger in diameter doesn't mean it's better. The factory rubber intake arm goes from 3.25 at air box to 2-3/8 (Just a bit bigger than the throttle body opening) This gives the factory tube a velocity stack effect accelerating the airflow as it gets compressed from 3.25 to 2-3/8. removing the resonator in the arm and plugging it with something flat on the inside gets rid of most of the restrictions. Besides the four rubber flex rings- I think the rubber arm is pretty efficient.
id like to see someone do a dyno test with the ice box using the stock tube vs. the icebox with the comptech short ram
where can i get a copy of the dyno results on a gsr besides on comptech's website?? Has anyone done a test of their own with the icebox on a gsr??
I think on a stock car that adding an intake does more for OBDII GSR's than OBDI GSR's. I read on some magazine test that a stock 2000 GSR put 136 to the wheels and w/ the AEM CAI it put about 150 peak to the wheels...should be about the same w/ the ICE Box. Just my $0.02
You guys are really missing out.
The APC Intimidator Intake is the biggest shocker of the year.
GSR's are getting 12-15whp with these short rams.
They're awesome!!!
Okay, I'm lying...
I have an AEM CAI...
I almost bought an Icebox, but the AEM was $100 installed, so I bought it.
I would rather have the icebox... but oh well... $100 bucks is cheap.
