Default Aftermarket Speakers

From what I believe, the sizes are 6 1/2 for the front and back so I bought the alpine type-r components and coaxles. The problem, however, is that honda made the holes especially made for the stock speakers sizes (VERY shallow speakers). The depth of the stock speakers are like half the size of the type-r's. Now I went to A&B sound and they said I wont be able to fit them in the back and that they can't just raise them and build a special box to make them lift because they just wont fit. Are they full of shiet? What did you guys do? If it's true that I need special size speakers...which ones are worth buying?

Thanks.

P.S. It wasn't just the back speakers that I had the problem with, it was the front as well. A&B told me the front's were do-able though.

Are u talking about the width of the magnet? If so alpine always includes spacers for them. Dont know if that will push them out to much that u cant put the door panel back in.

Im talking about the mounting depth...it's so shallow. Crutchfield said the shallow infinity speakers won't even fit (REF6012SI). If those don't fit and they are only 1-15/16" mounting depth then what will fit?? Crutchfield only listed one type of speakers to fit my rears which were the boston accoustics. I find it hard to believe that those are the only ones that would fit. I really want to change my rear speakers but I really don't know what will fit

Has no one changed the rear deck speakers?

I replaced all mine with Eclipse 6.5, 3-way speakers. They were shallow enough for the back and doors. If your interested in Eclipse, I will post the speaker model number when I get home.

Quick update - I scheduled the appointment to have my back speaker rattle fixed (and an oil change), and dropped it off at 8:00 yesterday morning. They call me yesterday night and tell me my car won't be done til today, and they give me a rental. Today goes by, they call me AGAIN and say it will probrably.. yes probrably be done 2morrow. Although its free, I am driving around a 2005 chevy malibu classic, PIECE. They said they are having problems with the part or something like that. OH AND YEAH - they scratched the tint on my back window (not covered tho, because they "warned" me that it might happen).

Any1 else have problems with this? I don't see how it takes 2 whole days to fix this little problem. This honda dealership gets 2 thumbs down!!

alot of problems with depth, you can use a smaller low depth magnet "the bigger the magnet the better the respond" or just cut the back off where it hits, problem is you might not open the windows all the way down.. i have done it alot of times.. my hatch and legend, and my friends 96GSR/ 96civic/ 95civic hatch "No problems just place dynomat behind on the door for less vibration... on my 06 civic i use 4 sony explode all 5.25" and they are PERFECT! BTW I placed circular foam weather strips on all 4 speakers and rewire with a sauder so i can use the stock harnest.. NO rattles..

kenwood excelons are good for the back...

i have alpine type R in my front doors .... cartronics did some light modification to the fronts and they fit fine....no hammering or bending...just light cutting of where the speaker mounts in the doors....

if u want the type R to fit in the rear all u have to do is get rid of the trunk bars....those are the bars that prevent ur trunk from flying open when u pop it...if u can do without those u'll be fine with the type R...

or u can take them off and modify them/bend them in the area where the speaker sits to provide more clearance...

i'd just get the boston acoustics or the kenwood excelons for the rear and figure out the front with the type R.

the way i did the the rear speakers is I cut out the rear speaker itself and used the housing to mount the new ones.

I replaced the speakers in the rear deck. I used polk audio 6 1/2" speakers. I made a spacer out of 1/2" plywood. You just mount the speaker to the spacer then you mount the spacer to the rear deck from the bottom through the sheet metal. You have to make sure that you line up the speaker and the spacer exactly where the factory one was. If you are off the plastic cover for the rear deck wont go back on. I just used a marker to outline the factory speaker. One side fit just fine, the other I had to trim the end of the tortion bar for the trunk. Sorry I dont remember which side offhand. I did it like 6 months ago. It is really easy just takes a little time.
