Kind of a retarded question, but do 5th gen preludes have a metal flap over the gas tank...?

I know on my other cars they have had a metal flap that gets pushed out of the way when you put in the nozzle

 

Mine doesnt. My mom 95 accord does.

 

My 4th gen does, but my mom's '99 Accord doesn't

i had 2 ludes one had one one didnt?

dont have a clue why or why not though

 

its probably one of the minor changes from the 97-98 to 99-01, my 00 SH doesnt, i know for a fact cuz i looked with a flashlight when i put fuel stabilizer in there.

So what exactly is the purpose of that flap thing? Prevent vapors from escaping or just an extra measure to protect the tank while the cap is off?

both of my 4th gens have it...maybe yours fell off and its in the tank?

Heh, that's what I was wondering!

What the heck is the thing really meant for, and I wonder if this explains my semi-(seemingly) erratic fuel gauge readings. I swear that thing reads lower sitting overnight!
