what would be the best mod for a 2000 si
im planning to get a 2000 si soon and i was wondering what would be the best modification for intake and header anything else i need to know .. im kinda new at this so im just researching before i spend my money
boltons wont do much for you. Maybe 5hp, if your lucky. Invest in a swap or a turbo. A turbo would do great for you. Keep researching, this question has been beat to death.
I dont think you have enough knowledge yet to take anything on to major. If u want your engine to breath of course go with the i/h/e, but dont expect much from that engine. Turbo or swap either way you have A LOT more reading to go.
best mod is a bigger motor, or Forced Induction..
And not to flame..but you arent "researching". You're making us do the research for you.
Good luck, but a nugget of advice. Worry about buying the car first, paying it off, getting a good insurance plan, and while you're doing all this enjoy the nice reliable car the way it is while you research future mods. After you're very comfortable with the car and feel very confident driving it...begin to mod it to how you see fit.
I wish you luck with whatever you buy, no matter what Honda you get you wont be let down. Just know that they are not built for speed and you'll have to spend quite a bit to have it keep up with most other cars on the road. Remember though, power and speed is all relative. It doesnt have to be the fastest on the road to be fun to drive.
You've probably heard this before, but there are three things that everyone wants out of thier cars. Those three things are CHEAP, FAST, and RELIABLE. You will only be able to have two of those three. If its cheap and fast, its probably not reliable. If its reliable and fast...it WONT be cheap.
Keep this following statement in your head at ALL times while modifying your car. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! Unless you're buying a JDM part, then you're most likely paying for the JDMness so please dont expect it to perform better than something USDM, in most cases at least but thats another thread all together

I'd say thats a strong statement, and surely an opinion. For the same type of budget, he can boost the b16 reliably and much quicker than an N/A LSVTEC in most situations.
Not to mention that the LSVTEC if not done perfectly correct, can be less reliable than a forced induction setup, again depending on the tune quality.
Either way though, you're still on the right track. If you're gonna invest in a Civic, this type of work is the only kind that will yeild significant gains. Save your money instead of buying bolt on's and whatnot.

i agree with him. dont buy an si if you are going to swap because you may as well pay alot less for an ex.

Not everyone feels that way. But I personally agree with you. I'd MUCH rather have a not-so-fast reliable, well balanced car than a stock brakes/suspension(other than springs) running 12lbs.

yeah all i wanted was just to hit and hear the vtec that all i want i wasnt planing to take it to the track right now or anything i just wanted to cruise for a while maybe turbo later on !!
If all you want is to hear VTEC and cruise around, get an intake, header and exhaust. There are many choices when it comes to these mods. Do some research on them as you say!
best mod=GOOD DRIVER
anyways, i dont know why everyone is saying buy the car and swap the motor. the b16 is a very capable engine, it may have no torque and feel like a D UNTIL U HIT VTEC, but it is a good motor in the end.
as for mods, what are u willing to spend??????are you going to be NA or boost? u need to decide that b/f u do any mods.
learn from my mistake. my first car (my current car) i was just gettin into workin on my car so of course i did the CAI and header and 2.25" cat-back. But now i want more power and im considering a turbo which means i will have bought the CAI and header and just wasted $600 which could be toward my turbo.
moral of the story, always research and have somewhat of a plan w/realistic power goals. this will save u time and keep u from spending extra $$$$$$$$$$$.
IMO dont swap the motor, build what u got til u get more experience

A Si does have disk rear brakes, 13mm rear sway bar, better stock suspension. My point is a Si is a better base for a build IF you can find a good deal on one.

The best modification for any car owner happens to be free of charge:
Knowledge.
Nothing will save you more time, money, effort, and headache then knowing what you are doing and why you are doing it. Read as much as you can, get as much hands-on experience as humanly possible, and spend time around people who do know what they are talking about.
When I used to spend just about every night and every day I had off work at my old mechanic's shop (before he and his brother went into business and their personality changed *long story*), I learned so much just by sticking my nose into things, and digging my hands into any task they'd let me.
PS - RiceKillinSI, what's your username on ClubCivic? That's the only place I posted that story.
