steering rack
I know this is a dumb question but here it goes. Is the Steering Rack the same thing as the Rack and Pinion. Are they the same thing just with 2 different names. I need to replace the "Rack and Pinion" on my '88 hb but all I really find is a steering rack.

yes they are the same thing.. the rack is the long bar that connects to the tie rods, and the pinon is the gear that moves along that when you turn the wheel. if you are going to replace it, check out http://www.kingmotorsports.com they have the quaif rack and pinion that are less turns to lock than the stock.. if mine was going out, i would upgrade..
good excuse to anyways
