TOYOTA TECH HAS IMPORTANT QUESTION ABOUT CR-V...
Hey, I have a 1997 CR-V automatic. I am having a problem with the transmission. The LOCK-UP in overdrive is not engaging normally. It seems to lock up when cold, but when trans reaches operating temperature, it won't lock the converter. I service the transmission regularly. Drain, fill, drive, drain, fill, etc. I DO use HONDA ATF-Z1. The car has 123,000 miles. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED
there is no overdrive in a honda transmission.
I would suggest going through the shift solenoids and checking/ cleaning them then see if the condition resolves itself.
Also check out both ECT's to make sure they are ok.
If you need more help just ask

If it doesn't have an overdrive button on the shifter then the transmission doesn't have overdrive? They all have overdrive whether they have a button or not -- there's no button for VTEC either, but my Ridgeline has it (along with two overdrive gears). Overdrive is not "just a term Honda uses" either.
Also, FWIW, my mom's 1999 CR-V did, in fact, have an overdrive toggle button at the end of the shift lever. However, I'll let you in on a little secret: ever wonder why there's a D3 position on Honda's auto trannies? BINGO -- they lock you out of overdrive gears -- same as a toggle button would do.
I think it'd be wise to research your information ittle further before passing it on to others. Saying "No Honda has overdrive" is simply false.
