Default Speedometer cable questions (3rd & 4th gens)

Ok so here we go.......I have a 88 prelude si with a 4th gen JDM H22...My problem is that i cant get my speedometer to work....and if i am right the 88-89 ludes are mechanically driven and the 90+ are electricly driven..so heres what i need to find out...

1. Will the 90-91 si gauge cluster fit in the 88-89 dash with no problem?
2. Now do the electric speedo cables plug in the harness/ECU somehow or not?

You would also have to swap the whole wire harness. It's not worth it. Replaceing a speedo cable is no fun on one of those if that is the problem.
