Default 93 Accord discharge R134a

I need to remove the AC condenser to replace the radiator support. The procedure described in the repair manual requires a manifold gauge set to discharge from both high/low pressure ports. I don't understand why can't I just vent refrigerant from the low pressure port. Please help! Thanks a lot

if my memory serves me right 93 acords still had r12 ,, not r134a.. unless you retrofitted it to r134a........
also why would you vent it in the air and lose the freon ?? why not evacuate . save the freon and reuse it ??

94 I think was the change over year to R134A. You should be able to just let it bleed out, but why? That crap's expensive.

Shhhhhh......it's illegal to vent hcfc or cfc refrigerants to atmosphere. If you want to do it, just do it and don;t tell anybody.
If you don't have the equipment and tools, right way to do it, just take it to a shop with a recovery machine and let them recover the refrigerant. Then you can remove the condenser and repair the radiator support. When done, while the system is still open, convert the R12 system to R134A. Pull out the compressor and drain and flush the R12 oil and replace with R134A compatible oil. If you can flush the lines better still. Change all the o-rings and seals in the fittings that you opened up, put everything back together then take it to a shop with a vacuum pump and pay them for pulling a vacuum. The system is now ready for recharging R134A refrigerant.

Sorry for causing the confusion. I converted it to R134a several years ago. Thanks

Thank you very much for your detail description. The AC of my accord is not working now so I will leave it alone this time. Last time when I converted it, I just used a retrofit kit and didn't flush the system and replace the o-rings.

Can I vent all R134 out from the low pressure port? I have a gauge came with the retrofit kit which I can use to measure the pressure at the low-pressure port. If the reading is zero, does it mean the high pressure portion also measures zero? Thanks again.
