Hey whats up guy i have a buddy of mine in the air force and he is bringing home to nc a 1996 four door rhd type r he is thinking of selling it so he can pay some bills what do you think is a good asking price i have seen pics of the car it is in beautiful shape the car only has 59000kms on the motor ...,original motor

 

A big factor is if he gets it registered/titled before he sells it. That will have a big influence on how much he can sell it for. Sorry, I'm no help on specific numbers. It's cool to see another ITR sedan coming to our shores though

 

he'd probably be better off selling before he leaves. it would cost more to ship it over, and then getting it registered. unless he's going to keep it, i see no sense in shipping it. he might get 14-15k max.

 

i think the air force will ship it for free.

 

I believe there were a couple 2dr. and 4dr. models going for around $20k. These were both registered and in great shape.

I dont think so... im in the marines and never heard of anything. If its true let me know because I go to japan in septmeber of 07

 

The Air Force does do it for some servicemen depending on their assignment. I think it has to do with how long they'll be there, etc. My uncle is an Air Force mechanic and has lived in Germany for the past 5 years or so. They shipped his Camaro over there for free.

 

It's virtually impossible to estimate a fair market price on a unique, customized, or low-volume car, because you don't see a lot of sales on something comparable. A '96 ITR sedan would fall into that category.

 

If your stationed in japan you could always slip the C-130 crew a bit of money to load up a skyline or anything JDM to fly back on to the US after doing their routine back and forth transport mission.

 

I'd say 13k-15k

 

Any place that allows you to ship cars back and forth in the military will ship the first one for free. Any other and you have to pay depending size, weight etc. If you buy a brand new car through a miltary program say BMW, Audi, Saab etc. Then they'll factor in the price of shipping and ship separate from the military. They ship it to the closest dealer where you're going.
