No personal experience but most of the research I have done indicates that the f22b1 (5th gen sohc vtec) is going to be your best bet. I have seen f22a's boosted to on stock blocks. As far as parts I am pretty sure that a 5th gen f22 will be a smooth swap.

Are you planning on keeping the original transmission or purchasing a complete swap?

Since your going f22b1 make sure you get a engine from the 94-95 models cuz the 96-97 are obd-2 and you would have to go thru the obd-2 to obd-1 converting. Use your f22Ax engine harness and everything will plug up, all you would have to do i s wire up vtec, and extend the fuel line from the fuel filter. I just did the f22b1 swap so it's really a peice of cake, just don't get ahead of yourself like I did!

No problem bro! Also do you plain on getting a chipped p06 ecu or the poa ecu from the 94-95 ex model. If you are gonna run the poa ecu you will need to swap 2 pins around on the A plug for the ecu! If not and your using the chipped p06 you will need to wire the vtec solenoid into pin A4 and the vtec pressure sensor into pin d6. I used the chipped p06 route! hope that helps.

Get the JDM F22B (DOHC) or USDM H23, straightest swap possible. All you need is the engine and an ECU.

You've already got a 5spd, just get an aftermarket LSD installed. You end up spending about the same.
