Jerky steering wheel at high speeds
Well heres the background....got a 94 GSR running an LS/Vtec. Gots polyurethane motor mounts but is missing the torque mounts that goes on the tranny and the A/C mount, due to me swapping out the engine last month. Car is lower with tokico blues and ebiach springs. No adjustable camber kit. Also car has a Momo steering wheel.
Problem: Even before I changed the motor the car would start viberating at high speeds, say about 50 Mph+, and you really notice it when i am punching it. At first i thought it could be the motor mounts, but then sometimes when I am driving, you know how the have those recently patches of asphalt like they did some work in the road, it would want to follow that. So I have an idea that I diffently have to fix this camber due to me having some modeate camber wear on my tires. But could it be anything else?
I was thinking about bending my knuckles to fix that camber problem seeing that some of the guys camber kits doesnt fully adjust his height.....
So wondering if anyone has ever had this problem before or you might know whats up, let me know so i can fix my baby. Thanks

well tires are always balanced....but alignement might have been for a while. you think that could be the problem right there
i had the same problem and it turned out to be the axle ........cheap *** auto zone axles ......good thing they are lifetime guarantee cause i had to replace it three times to fix the vibration.i guess it was just a cheap rebuild

Yes. Those Cheap Reman Axles do tend to lose there balance at high speeds 90+.
Also I think you should check your Tie Rod Ends, and looseness in the Wheel Hub Bearing Assembly.
Next time your driving at around 50mph or so, shimmy the steering wheel left and right and try to Gage the looseness of the steering wheel. I would say about 1/2 inch is Maximum allowable end play. If you have more than an inch you should really take it in and have it thoroughly checked out by a professional for your own safety.
Let us know what you find out.

Could be an axle, alignment, wheel bearing or bad tires (my dad had a set of brand new goodyears w/ seperated belts). Also doing things like "bending the knuckles" can have adverse effects on the car....not to mention you arent running torque mounts. Keep doing things incorrectly and you'll keep getting poor results.
yeah thats why I am here try to find postive results now, not a list of everything I just listed. plus has anyone used bent knuckles....few of the DC2s have done them down here and had no problems, but does not dismiss that the facts they are problems. Can you elaborate on the adverse effect of the car. Not try to sound hosile, but dont want to dismiss possible soultions either.
well for sure i am going to get a new alignment, but i know i got to get the camber kits. But tire tread and pressure is fine. i know that the wheel bearing goes bad when it starts making noise....but how else can you check without taking it out? I really hate taking it out
Jack the car up and wiggle the wheel/tire. If it wiggles round and round like the wheel is about to fall off, then the wheel bearing is bad.
i have been having the same problems since i replaced my axles i never thought it would be that .. also noticed it alot when i changed my suspension. got a alinement and still doing to the same thing .. so from what im reading here .. i should get my front axles i got from auto replaced?
Wheel bearings do make a Grinding noise or light squeal when going bad. BUT I have also seen from experience the hub getting loose without any noise or indication of a problem at all. I had a CRX with a loose front right hub, with all other components prevented from moving I could shift the wheel from the edge of the tire a good 1/2 inch back and forth (like I was steering the car). Replaced the whole knuckle because I didn't want to mess with that safety issue! I think the Races the bearings roll on can sometimes get worn down from abrasion and/or heat and possibly hard impacts if your suspension is too stiff.
I am really intrested in the final outcome of your problem, please post your trouble shooting methods and how you narrowed the problems down when you figure it out.
