Sup y'all--I just bought an 88 EF Hatch (std) and am having to do a lot of repairs just to keep it on the road. One of these included having a new motor dropped in--upon doing which, I was informed that my temperature gauge did not work correctly and I needed to have it fixed so that it didn't void the warranty on the new motor. I need to replace the temp sending unit, but I cannot find where it goes. My Haynes manual says it's located on the backside/back inside of the thermostat housing, but short of ripping out the housing and looking inside, I can't figure out where it goes. The reason I haven't done that already is that I can't even find a wire that looks like it comes out from anywhere near there. SO--I suppose my real question is--where is the temp sending unit that attaches to the temp gauge located, and how is the wire connected (i.e., harness connector, metal crimp, screwed down with an adapter)? Any help would be mucho appreciated.

I'm pretty sure on a d-series it's in the side of the head, just infront of the thermostat housing, single wire, I wanna say green with yellow stripe, but I could be wrong.
Its a 1 pin connector on the side of the cyl head below the dist. Their are 2 sensors on that side of the head, the coolant temp sensor(2 pin connector with a physically larger connector) and the temp gauge sender(the 1 pin small connector). hth
