Default Idle problems...yes another idle thread.

Ok i never thought i would have to post one of these, but im out of ideas. I figured i could find this myself, but its not happening.

Problem, Idle jumping from say 600 - 1000 rpms (i dont have a tach, this is a guess)

the setup.

d16z6 automatic swapped to manual, swapped into 1992 civic dx hatch
p28 ecu (as of 20 min ago)
skunk 2 intake manifold
str 68mm throttle body
aem fuel rail and fpr
bigger injectors (i dont know flow rate, it came on motor, im swapping injectors this weekend to stock)
head milled .01
NO FITV

Ive tried the brake cleaner trick, spraying everything down, hoses, gaskets, idle valves, blah blah. I dont know what im looking for. Is it a stumble? Faster evaporation in the area of "possible vacuum leak"?

charcoal canister is not hooked up. no open lines as of now (will T one off eventually)

coolant is bled properly

IACV is dirty, i will clean it as soon as possible (i took it off to do so, but grabbed my bag with advance brand wd40 instead of carb cleaner, cans look similar DOH!)

ONLY CEL is 7 for TPS. It only comes on if i hold the car at WOT for more than 3 seconds (i dont do this at idle of course)

when the cel comes on my idle goes up to say 1k (i dont have a tach yet) but the idle is consistent, not up and down. could a bad tps cause the problem? I have another one.

if you need anymore info just ask.

bad MAF?

edit:

u have stock intake?
if u have an aftermarket one, was it oil based? cuz some older aftermarket intake filters need oil and water to get it cleaned i.e. aem/injen if you put too much oil on your filter, the oil gets around your air sensor and your car tries to maintain constant air flow/temp. so basically your car is trying to maintain air flow, so it goes up and down to try to find the right amount of air i guess. if u dont understand this, PM me i can give u more details.

if you have stock intake, this reply is to those who have older aem/injen and most likely other aftermarket intake systems

His Civic is MAP based, not MAF.

Do you have a multi-meter? Can you check what the TPS voltage? It might not be bad - just mis-adjusted.

great advice. since you are throwing a code for the TPS, do as he says and check the voltage of the TPS. the TPS when its not working properly can give you a erractic idle

i do not have a multimeter. so i figured i would just put my spare one on the car (from my d15) and give that a shot.

im doing that tomorow. (i work 50+ hours a week, hard to find time to work on it)

i was just old that the tps wouldnt cause it to idle up and down like it is.

but im just not finding any vacuum leaks. so i needed more options to look at.

anything else besides tps that might cause it? all sensors are in right locations.

ill update after new tps is in

pull off the intake pipe, right at the throttle body. there will be two holes right before the butterfly valve to let air in at idle. Cover 1 at a time with your finger. One goes to iacv other goes to fitv. problem solved

uhh...no

i dont have a fitv for one

i dont have a stock TB either.

i only have 1 hole...thats for IACV

and ive done that already

you said you used brake clean.....big no no

use carb cleaner

also the revving idle just means your running lean, maybe fuel pressure...

actually im running rich right now.

ill try carb cleaner, as i didnt know which to use before. and a revving idle usually means, bad sensor or vacuum leak.

running rich and running rich at idle are two different things

a vacuum leak causes you to run lean...as does a bad sensor.

The revving idle is a direct result of running lean and the computer compensating, then over compensating, over and over.
