Convincing my dad to get an Si...
Alright, so I will be getting a new car soon. Specifically, the new civic coupe. I use to have an 05 RSX type S. We sold that because it was an enigma from hell. I had hit a curb trying to avoid a car from clipping me from the side and had to replace a control arm and strut bar. Got rear ended twice, in which I was already stopped at a red light. My dad accidently broke the rear window by closing the trunk, something had got caught between the truck and the outside. One day my check engine light came on and I took it to the dealership. So they run a diagnostics test and say nothing is wrong with it. Few days later, I am hitting 5k RPM on 3rd gear and all the sudden the engine completely shuts down and I heard a clicking noise. Turns out the spark plug got loose and fell into one the cylinders and ****ed up the whole engine. Honda had to replace a whole new engine. A month later, I got the car back sparkling new. But the gears were grinding. So my dad was just fed up with it and decided to sell it.
Now, in a few weeks. I will be getting an FG. I am unsure of what kind of FG I am getting though. The statement he made the other day was "I think the civic is a good car for you, it's not too fast."
lol, I just hope he was making a general statment comparing to all cars. If not, how can I convince him to let me get another fast car? He will be making the payments with the money that was put away for me a long time ago, and I will be paying for the insurance.
Any advice on convincing him to let me get the Si besides that I am paying for my own insurance?

Tell him all the good stuff about the Si, Mileage, comfort, etc. affordability and all that fun stuff. If that don't work then tell him that he don't buy it for you, you will have no choice but to kill yourself.
Im sure your pops and you are close just tell him you want it and he will comply, don't worry.

Aye, resale is a good thing to pry more $$ from your dad's hands
Tthere's also the fact that you had an RSX Type-S, and getting a car with less than the Si's HP would be torture to you! Honestly though, I don't think it would be a hard sale to him. It's a great car and still a Civic.

So your dad is already spending 16+k on you (a young guy) for a new car, and you are trying to convince him to get you a 22+k car? Wow.
If my kid ever tried that on me, I would ditch the regular civic and buy you a geo metro. Be happy your gonna be driving a car like instead of what most teenagers drive - 1995ish cars. Its unreal someone would complain about getting a new car.

LoL, you don't know **** about me, so why are you judging me? Did I ever say it was his money that he's spending on me? That is money that I made on my own for 4 summers straight during my high school years. He basically took some money that I made during that time frame and put it away for my savings. Right now I am college as a full time student and working. I will be paying for my own insurance in full. So I think I deserve every last bit of that Si.

to OP: just like the other guy said, just tell him you want the si. tell him its not that expensive, low emissions like the rsx, good gas mileage, insurance shouldn't to too expensive, and its a CIVIC but with the SI..

i should clarify my post that, in my case, i only had to convince my dad that the car was better than a Ford Fusion (because hes a ford fanboy) and he was the cosigner on my car. It was still my decision, but i heard less grief about it after that, and once he drove it, i dont think he even knows what a ford fusion is anymore.
lol wrecking it like my RSX? Only thing that was my fault was when I hit the curb and had to replace a control arm and a strut bar, which isn't that much of a biggie. Everything else just happened out of bad luck/fate.
better talk to the dealer before you bring your dad there. when i tried to get my mom to buy me the Si, he wouldnt stop talking about how fast is was, and that it was good for racing. so then we aimed for the base civic.
i honestly would have prefered a used car than a new one. like an EM1 or DC4. but i am happy nonetheless. i dont have to worry about maintanence, lots of mileage, and i start with a fresh clutch.

good luck with getting the Si. do everything you can to get it. I bought my own car but my mom had to co sign cause I had bad credit so I had to convince her to co-sign with me also. I just told them why buy the basic when for 3-4 more grand you can get the best new civic out. Also I told her what if I'm getting on the Highway and some trucker is being a dick and wont let me on. The lx might end up getting ran off the road but the Si will have to power to hurry up and get past. do what ever it takes to get the Si.
How did I get owned? lol
And better yet, how am I old? Im for sure younger than 90% of this board.
And I made NO assumptions.. Im going by exactly what the OP said. If your truely paying for it, then why is your dad making the decision on what you get? If you are really the one spending ~22k, I think you would have say in what you get. You are still a child if you dad has to tell you what car you can get with your money. My mom helped me spend my money was 5.. by the time I hit college, my daddy didnt step in and tell me a car was too fast.
But in all honesty, its hard to beleive you are paying for it with your own money. Maybe its money put away FOR you, but is really you parents money. Then.. its not really yours. If its your money, then dont think up a reason for the SI. Just get it. You dont have to be told how to spend your money.

Well let's see... I am living under his roof. He's playing for my college tuition fully, just as long as I stay in school. He wants me to obey his rules, and he knows that I use to race with my type S. He's not going to want me street racing in an Si. He loves cars and racing, but does not condone street racing. He's also the one signing for my car because he has extremely good credit, and the interest rate will be really low. Me being almost 19, has no credit, will be IMPOSSIBLE to sign for myself or find a family member that has good credit.
