Have any of you installed a ATS 4.73 FD?
I'm trying to put a ATS 4.73 FD in my d-series trans and am running into a problem with the counter-shaft. Unfortuinatly i'm hitting King during SEMA week so if anyone has any experiance with this let me know and I'll explain my situation.
thanks!
thanks!
The ATS counter-shaft has a ridge where 1st gear sits that the honda shaft doesn't. The r8idge is supposed to be there so that I don't have to press that ring in. The problem is that the needle bearing for 1st counter-shaft won't slide over that ridge, 1st gear will though. If the needle bearing did fif over that ridge it wouldn't fit over the lower section where it is supposed to fit, which is the same diamiter as the honda shaft. Let me know if that didn't make any sense and I'll take a picture.
read the instructons...err...graph. That ridge that I was talking about comes off, then you slide the needle bearing on and the ridge goes on top.

Has anyone experianced a wine after the install? I only made it up to 3rd before I shut it down, so I still need to listen to fourth, but thought I'd ask anyway.

I found the problem. Major backlash ate up the ring gear. It was rubbing on the case and the shifter arm. The arm cased teeth to chip...and killed it.
oops...looks like a mistake during assembly or you had a part fail.
We have done several of these with no problem so we know they work when installed properly. What did you do wrong?

I'm not entirly sure. I didn't check the backlash when I put it back togeather and I haven't dissassmebeled the trans either. The person I'm talking to at King wasn't exactly sure but was going to send the pictures to ATS.
