yes it will bolt up....
j1 FTW

i know this wont answer your question as youasked, but i feel it will help. If you are planning on racing for a while, i would make the switch to a ys1 now. Its still a cable casing, but it uses the same components internally as a hydro tranny. In the long run, i feel it will make your race season easier with finding parts to rebuild when necessary.
I personally run a Y1 lsd, and love it, it's shorter than the s1, but changing slick sizes help fix that. Personally I think y1 is one of the best all around tranny, custom gears equal the best for drag racing. I like to have drivablity for circuit, drag, and daily driving, so I'm kinda bias.
actually S1 b16 trans is shorter than all of them EXCEPT for the j1 i prefer the J1 all the way! the S1 is type r gear ratio!
go S1 if you have serious power or J1 if you like sick short gears!
ive had them all! and blown spider gears out the sides of them all dayy!
y-1 4100 Rpm's
ys1 4200 Rpm's (internally hydro)Type r diff and final drive drops in
s1 4600 Rpm's (personal best)
j1 4900 Rpm's (too much wheel spin)
@ 80 miles per hour in 5th gear!

i have had a b16 s1 then i had a y1 and now i have a jdm b16 ys1 with lsd
the y1 is probably the longest geared b16 tranny. bigger gears that the si,j1 and ys1 b16 trannies

yeh i run a b16a turbo, with 26x8.5x15 M/T and are frying the tires hard in 1st and 2nd with the s1 box- with a best et of 11.1@132.5mph (crossing the line with shift light on at 8700rpm) and 1.85 60ft.... so i was thinking ov switching to a y1 box- hoping to 60ft better and run a 10sec pass.
i would go with the y1 if its n/a or boost because it has a 4.2 final drive and has a longer 1 st gear than the s1= better 60 ft. By the way every gear exept 5 th is longer in the y1. the y1 is found only in the sir crx or civic 88-91 JDM. Reason the cars are very light so they can use longer gears. there are better B series trannies out here but you asked about these two
ive been driving EF's and DA's for a while now and i thought i knew all the cable trannies, but now im confused.
Some one break it down for me please.
I would have to say that the shortest gears and bigger slicks would net the best gains for drag racing.

So what u sayin is u can use a YS1 tranny and swap enternals from a hydro B16 or type R and keep the cable case? Cuz its pretty hard to find S1, and J1 trannies YS1 are a dime a dozen

The J1 is identicle to the S1 except for a bigger/better 3/4 synchro unit, it came out in 91 in the JDM DA6 as an improvement for the weak 3/4 synchro in the S1/A1/Y1, then the YS1 came out in the last DA6s with a bigger again 3/4 synchro the same as all the hydro boxes.
IMO the Y1 has the best ratios for an EF drag racing, the longer first gear definately helps launches, especially on our crappy NZ drag strips.

What you need to look for is the YS1 that has the two 14mm bolts on the bottom of the casing. There are some out there that are a YS1 that do not have these two bolts on them. They are the ones that face the ground. They are found in the US LS motors 92-93 I believe as well as the 93 GSR.
We use to run a the 93 GSR 1.7 cable tranny and did well. Now we still use the same gears in the hydro casing.
the J1, S1, and Y1 cable parts are going to be a little difficult to find.
find a YS1 and put all the hydro parts in it.
