Default Downpipe I made today for vw turbo diesel

I made this downpipe today for vw diesel, mk3 with 1.9IDI and T3 turbo. What do you think? I made the first radius off the turbo very wide, I find it helps drop EGT's more and help the turbo spool up quicker. Any body have any tips for welding 16g tube? I would like to get my tube welds as nice as my fillet welds. I am currently welding the butted tube joints at 40-45 amps, 1/16 red tungsten, #6 cup, gas lens, 18-20chf, .045 er70s-2 filler on a syncrowave 200.

Turn down the heat just a little more. Looks nice and burnt, looks good though. Amperage down.

Whenever I weld mild pipings, it comes out less dark then that, with full penetration. See that 1-2inch dark area? Might be just the camera..Who knows.

None the less, still works.

All the 16g but welds were done at around 40 amps, do you really htink I should go lower than that? I have 100% penetration currently, I dunno I will get that if I go down to 30-35... I'll try though, some .035 filler might be nice.

i ran a bunch of beads on some 16g piping last night at 40 amps too. worked fine for me. 100% penetration all around. did you purge it? or just leave it?

I usually don't purge mild, but I will if it is a DP and there is a cat in the system. The backside will flake off and clog the cat.

After the cat or no cat, no purging.
