Default D15B8 8 valve or 16 valve relief check!

I have a D15B8 and was wondering if there is anyway to check to see if it has 8 or 16 valve reliefs? It is in a 1992 CX. Is there anyway to check other then pulling the head off?

Thanks!

remove the valve cover and count the springs on the head (every spring = how many valves

I'm tired that wont work, I mean how many reliefs not valves. I think some had 16 valve reliefs but still 8 valves...looking at doing a 16 valve head swap

It has 4 reliefs on each piston. 16 valve relief.

Dunno if it matters but I am wanting to put a A6 head on a B8 block. So it will not be VTEC.

Just do a search for pistons for your car. Like p28 or p2p or p08 etc.

Well from what I hear they changed them. Some CX's had 8 valve reliefs while others did not.

92-95 d15b8's had 4 valve reliefs per piston.

it is the 88-91 CRX HF 8valve engine (d15b6) that had the 2valve relief pistons.

d15b7 or d16a6 head + p06 ecu + d15b7 or d16z6 intake manifold + cheap 56mm throttle body + y8 headgasket = easy 40hp for less than $150

You are 100% sure!? lol, that is almost the EXACT EXACT setup I want to do on it, which is why I am asking before I jump in.

you'll run into a few timing difficulties w/ running a d16a6 head. But not to worry, info is out there on running d16a6 head on d15 block. you'll want to run a 96-00 cam gear, or get an adjustable one. I'll link you to more info if you do go this route.

if you get a p06 ecu, you'll throw a CEL for an o2 sensor. since the CX uses a 1 wire o2. to get rid of the CEL, you can get your p05 ecu chipped to a p06 and have the chipper disable the o2 sensor. OR, wire in a 4 wire o2.

while you're at it, it wouldn't hurt to get any dx/lx/ex header. the CX/HX/VX has that **** header w/ the cat convertor integrated into the header. swapping to dx header = easy cat delete.

**** emissions

d16y8 head gaskets are $27 from the dealer, I'd suggest scooping one up there.

d16y8 intake manifold = waste of money
d16z6 intake manifold = cheap and "good enough" (the way I like my women)

What kind of problems? Like with timing and stuff? Can I run my CX dizzy on the A6 head?

I have a aftermarket header and exhaust. I will look for a Z6 manifold.

hm, might need to borrow a d15b7 cam to do this lol

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by "Mista Bone from http://www.knology.net/~jediklc/pistonnotes.htm" &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> Bone's A6 Cam swap how to (for putting a CRX Si cam into a D15) :

BEFORE cam swap, set your ignition timing at 16 BTDC, the center mark. Bring motor to TDC, swap cams. Adjust lash (.006I/.008E for me) and start motor. Idle will be funky high or low, depending on which way you installed the cam (retarded or advanced).

Let engine warm to normal temps, then use cam gear to adjust IGNITION timing back to 16 BTDC at same rpm as you checked it BEFORE the cam swap. Once you get it right, your cam is now ZEROED. The cam GEAR should read 4-5 degrees Advanced/Retard depending on install.</TD></TR></TABLE>

From what I've read, the Y8 IM is supposed to be the Type R of the Ds! Everyone asks me if my IM is stock I guess cuz it looks soooo big?!?!

they SAY that it's the "type R of the D's" but I've yet to see any dyno charts.

i bought a y8 intake manifold before. I had to swap fuel rails, fpr's, iacv's, extend my fuel hose and blah blah blah. it just isn't worth it IMO. d16z6 = good enough

I will stand corrected if I see dyno results.

Why would I need a B7 cam?

to help set timing? I dunno, it gets confusing. I think the y7 cam gear would correct all that though, if you ran a d16a6 head.

Well I just always heard the A6 cam was an upgrade though.
