Congrats and welcome to hell
No autox is a blast and theres no better place to learn driving dynamics and car control!
Word of advice, keep the car stock and run in DS

I recently went on a autox not to long ago. It was interesting. Did you run DS class? I was in STX when i when. I'm curious to know how the different classes are determined? Which classes can an ITR be placed in?
DS - Only mods allowed are front swaybar, shocks, catback exh, drop in filter, R-compound tires
STX - I/H/E, f/r swaybars, shocks/springs/coilovers, some ECU mods, street tires (azenis)
The ITR is arguably still "the car" to have for DS. However in STX its pretty much an also-ran.

1-4 at Nationals this year=smackdown
I agree the ITR is definately a great DS car. If you really get competitive, STX is a little tougher with the AWD guys.

i know, the only mod i have is lowering springs, and i got put in with AWD turbo cars?!?!? i was confused. they were running atleast 2 seconds ahead of me. But, after every run, a diff. Suby owner would come over and say "man i can't believe how clean and well taken care of your car is".

Congrats and welcome to the addiction.
I would say stay in STX while you're still on the steep part of the learning curve, just because your car is already there, and you don't need to change tires at the event. But I would suggest you not make any more STX mods to the car, and move to DS as you get more competitive. The WRXs seem to get a lot more bang out of the mods allowed in STX than the R does.
Of course, it may come to who runs in your region. If there's nobody in DS, STX might be a lot more competitive and fun.

i don't think there is a DS class, i saw LOTS of STS and the STX class wasn't that big, but it was WRX's and me in the R. As far as competition, i was just trying to better my runs every time.
Can't wait to do some High Speed Touring at the local road track!!

i need some more sway bars, think EM racing jungle gym for the back, and few other mods, my friend has RHD EF with FULL TEIN EDFC, EM racing jungle gym, Cusco stuff, and he was running 48 seconds and 47 second passes.
NEVER have i realized how BIG of a diff. chassis upgrades were.

<----My winter project is converting my STX ITR back to a D-Stock car. I finally finished the exhaust and I just have to remove the GC coilovers and Lightweight flywheel and I'm good to go. STX is fun but soo damn expensive to be nationally competitive. I think I'm planning on running street tires in D-stock for 2007 and by 2008 it will be time for some race tires. That will be about my 4th year auto-xing and I should be ready for race tires by then.

Don't buy into that. Chassis reinforcement upgrades sometimes aren't worth their weight in autox. The R is already a stiff car as-is. Those 4-point bars are worthless on newer Hondas when it comes to autox. Absolutely not worth the weight, not to mention some/most are illegal in STX.
If you seriously want to go faster in STX concentrate on wheels/tires and a better suspension, along with legal weight reduction. That will give you the biggest bang for your buck, buy far.
Well, learning how to drive better is the best improvement. A good driver in your car, how it sits, could probably run 2-3 seconds quicker than you at this point in time.

What about SM and STX2? what is needed for these two classes, and is it worth modifying the R for these classes? sorry about the questions. I'm new to the autox scene.

I would also agree that it is hard trying to beat out some of the RWD and AWD cars in the STX class. I know i loss to a 240sx, a heavily modified Celica GT-S, and WRX.

SM - add all STX mods, engine swaps, cams, forced induction, r-comp tires on any size rim, rear seat removal, diff steering wheel.
Basically if you want to be competitive outside the local level you will need beacoup $$ if you plan on running a Type R in SM. You can do fairly well locally/regionally in STX in a R but be prepared to spend $.
Never heard of STX2. Maybe its a regional class? Even then I would think STX2 would be made up of 2 seater cars just like SM2 and STS2.
ALL autox comes down to: do you want to be competive/win on (pick your level)? The $ amount goes up in a hurry from DS -> STX -> DSP -> SM.
OR...do you just want to mod your car however you want and wherever it falls you run there and who cares if you win or do well.
